At Shane English School Yangzhou, we are seeking a new Academic Manger to join our team and manage one of our schools. Central to the role will be developing a strategic path and nurturing the growth and development of the school from day one.
As the Academic Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the academic integrity of the school so that our students receive the best possible English language education. Vital to this role are strong people management skills and a flexible working style. You’ll have the ability to manage and develop a small international teaching team.
You’ll be qualified with a degree and be a native English speaker and have a wide range of teaching and training experience with a good understanding of the TEFL environment. Experience in a previous managing role is desirable as is experience living and working in a foreign country.
Ideally you’ll possess outstanding organizational skills, be positive and enthusiastic in the workplace and show an eagerness to solve problems. A proven track record of building strong relationships with teachers, sales and service staff, customers and other senior managers is essential.
Above all you’ll be a person who has a passion for learning and a real commitment to leading and developing a team of teachers. You’ll be someone who is able to confidently craft a vision for the future of our flagship school, while effectively managing its day to day operations. This will require all of your creativity and initiative as you work mostly independently to plan and implement your new directives that will ensure further success for our school.
Students
The majority of our students are young learners aged from 3 to 14 years old and teachers enjoy teaching to a variety of ages throughout the week. We also offer some offsite lessons and corporate-client lessons so teachers will have the opportunities to teach a range of ages. The maximum young learner class size is 8 students, and 10 students maximum for an adult class. All classes have a Chinese Teaching Assistant, who will correct homework, help set up activities and liaise with parents, allowing the teachers to focus on teaching.
Courses
Courses are designed around a core of set texts and supplementary materials. Teachers are encouraged to use a communicative approach to teaching and to add their own extra resources and ideas to bring variety to the learning environment. All new teachers undergo 2 weeks of initial training, introducing our curriculum and our teaching methodology. After this, we provide on-going training and valuable feedback on your classes, making sure nobody is left in the dark to struggle with a class. Chinese Teaching Assistants are in the class with us at all times, and are there to help with any complicated subjects or difficult students.
Yangzhou has a history of almost 2,500 years and is located by the Yangtze River not far from Shanghai, in Jiangsu province. It has been a leading economic and cultural center and a major port for foreign trade since the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907).
Yangzhou is rich in scenic spots, and there are many Suzhou-style gardens worth seeing, with Geyuan the most famous one. There are also several other gardens, one temple and one museum. Nightlife in Yangzhou is very colorful. Yangzhou snack streets, cinemas, theatres, bars and cafés are where you may go to enjoy the nightlife in Yangzhou if you are in the mood. Today, more and more locals head to bars and cafes after work to wind down after a long day. Students also head to the snack streets to spend a weekend night.
Yangzhou plays a very important role in China and the world. In 1982, it was listed as the first State Historic cities and in 2004 Yangzhou was recognized as one of the State Human Living Environment Cities.
-Excellent salary: 20,000 to 35,000 RMB per month (1,800 RMB monthly housing allowance included)
-Flight allowance of 5,000 RMB provided at beginning of contract (after arrival)
-Contract renewal bonus: 6,000 RMB
