Job description

If you care about literacy, have experience in charity financial management, people skills, and about 3-5 hours /week to help manage & develop financial systems please contact us!  

What will you be doing?

The finance manager will understand the details of our programme work and be able to support at the through the financial year at the 'big picture' as well as guide us on what is needed at the level micro level.  A detailed role description is available.

In brief, you will be responsible for financial management, reporting and compliance, working with our Trustees, the programme team in Malawi and our donors. This component this will form the majority of the work.  We envisage a degree of systems development, and support to programme development and fundraising in a growing organisation. 

You will need to be able to use Xero accounting software which is user friendly. 

We employ an accounting firm to assist with specific aspects of our accounts work and you will manage this contract. 

There can be a degree of flexibility in the role. For example a second finance person could assist with some components of the work.  

We encourage our volunteers to get to know the organisation work and its staff first, and we expect to invite the Finance Manager to join the board of Trustees after successful induction. When joining the board, the title will change to Finance Director.

Your input will help us with our audiences requiring financial information,  and your work directly supports our programme which is helping demonstrate and support Malawi government to adopt evidence based best practices in teaching literacy.

At the present time we are directly impacting Teacher Training of primary school teachers as well as impacting directly on about 300 children's lives - as they are quickly becoming literate.  With your help, we can do more.
