Job Description
The role of Finance Services Manager is an exciting opportunity to proactively manage a lively and communicative Finance Services team. This role will provide valued support to continuously improve financial standards, controls, and procedures across the charity. Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Management, you will utilise your experience, initiative, and strong communicative skills, to drive high-quality and timely financial support and reporting.
Advice and Guidance:
- Advising non-financial managers and staff, particular central cost budget holders.
- Supporting the wider organisation and external organisations with queries, including more complex finance enquiries.
Liaison:
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate: auditors, trustees, bankers, funders and commissioners, external consultants, internal and external contractors.
- Working with management accounts and business partners, to ensure correct cost code postings and VAT rates, and investigating anomalies.
Compliance:
- Ensuring that documentation is correctly recorded and maintained, to comply with audit requirements, working with auditors to supply all requested information at the due time.
- Ensuring that income and expenditure recordings and forecasts are correct, maintaining timely invoicing to adhere to contract details.
- Ensuring timely close of monthly period end, including schedule and reconciliation of purchase and sales ledger control accounts, in line with the management schedule.
Financial Administration:
- Overseeing and supporting all aspects of purchase ledgers, sales ledgers, expense systems and petty cash, undertaking credit control and debtor’s collection.
- Maintaining databases, including a cash flow database and a contract invoice database.
- Managing and processing income received to the main bank account, ensuring correct allocations.
- Administering the pre-paid cards portal, Barclays I Portal banking system, and the BACS payment system.
- Processing all correctly approved BACS payments, checking and authorising weekly payment runs for staff expenses, petty cash, and bursaries.

Qualifications
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following
qualifications
, skills and experience:
- Financial/accounting qualification, or relevant experience.
- Strong experience in a financial environment: financial system administration, devolved budget setting, sales and purchase ledger, treasury.
- Experience of statutory reporting and designing and developing Excel spreadsheets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate financial issues to non-finance staff.
- Ability to prioritise workload, working autonomously to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to work.
- Excellent attention to detail and initiative in problem solving, with a constructive approach to improving process efficiency.
- Ability to manage, travel, and work flexibly, as a collaborative and active member of a lively, busy team.
Additional Information
Salary: £42,000 per annum
Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Flexibility: Hybrid working: two days working from home, 3 days in the office (based in Brasted, Kent)
