About this client/child: Nell is in her early 60’s and is quite a character. She describes herself as having quite a dry sense of humour, the ruder the jokes the better! She enjoys spending time with her son and her 3-year-old Grandson who live nearby. Nell enjoys being at home and takes full advantage of her swimming pool and garden when the weather allows. When feeling up to it she also enjoys going out locally, whether this be for a quick bite to eat or scouting the local charity shops. Nell is a T6 Quadriplegic and a full-time wheelchair user. She experiences spasms and weakness in both of her legs and occasionally irregular bowel and bladder patterns. Nell requires the use of a catheter and can be prone to recurrent urine infections. At times she can experience low moods. Nell can manage all her personal care herself but will need support in making sure items are accessible and within reach.
Overview of role: Nell requires some additional support at home to enable her to live independently and continue to live the life she enjoys. A big part of the role will be providing Nell with company, being someone, she can laugh with, take her out in the community whilst also supporting her with domestic tasks such as changing the bed, hoovering, mopping, and dusting. Nell enjoys spending time in the garden so would also love to find someone who can help her with some light gardening too. Her dogs are a big companion for her, so part of the role is enabling Nell to keep her two dogs and take them for a walk daily. On Monday and Friday’s Nell sees a sport therapist at home, the sessions can be quite intense, so she usually finds herself in bed afterwards. Occasionally, Nell will need to go into London for meetings so she is looking for someone who can accompany her.
Who this job would suit: Nell is looking for a Support Worker / PA who is fun, laidback, friendly and can take things in their stride. A sense of humour is important and, the ability to connect, and engage with Nell and her family. There will be days that will feel challenging for Nell, so we are looking for someone who can bring positive energy and patience to the role.
Please be aware that Nell is a smoker so you will need to be comfortable being around this. Nell also has two much loved dogs so the candidate will need to be happy around dogs and comfortable taking them on walks.
What’s great about this job: It goes without saying, working with Nell is going to be great fun, giving her continued support at home, and enabling her to do the things she enjoys. In addition, on quieter days you will have access to Nell’s swimming pool at home when on shift.
