Job description
Teacher of Geography
Independent Specialist School has a vacancy for a Teacher of Geography – Sept 24 start.
Salary: MPS / UPS – suitable for ECT + SEN allowance
Undershaw is a popular over-subscribed school and so owing to continued growth we are looking for a Teacher of Geography to join our existing team at Undershaw, in Hindhead. We are an independent specialist school with places funded by our Local Authorities. Our school offers provision for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties such as ASD (high functioning). We provide an education for those who might not thrive in a mainstream setting but who equally would not be suited to attending a specialist SEND school - we offer an alternative which sits in the niche just between the two, providing GCSE and BTEC qualifications in a safe and caring environment.
We are looking for a Geography subject specialist and would welcome applications from Early Career Teachers. You will have sufficient proven evidence of developing teaching practice and be able to demonstrate that you can balance academic expectations with the challenge of meeting the needs of SEND students. You will be passionate about making a difference and preparing students to be socially and economically engaged in the future.
You will work with the SEND, Pastoral and Therapy teams to assimilate therapeutic support, a proactive approach to health and wellbeing, social skills, PSHE and protective behaviours into the curriculum and across school life. All teachers are Form Tutors, and we have regular multi-disciplinary meetings around students with specialist input, training and support from the Therapy team (Emotional Therapies, SaLT, OT and Physiotherapy). We invest significantly in staff professional development through a weekly extended CPD session delivered by a range of internal and external colleagues to share and develop pedagogy, SEND expertise and therapeutic strategies. Undershaw is definitely an environment where colleagues will learn.
Undershaw can offer you:
· The opportunity to be part of a committed team in a “Good school”
· SEN allowance
· Teachers’ Pension Scheme
· Small class sizes – typically 8-10 students
· Teaching Assistant in every class
· Increased PPA
· A beautiful school environment based in the Surrey Hills
Closing date: 22nd March 2024
Interview date: 26th March 2024
Undershaw is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer Recruitment practice and pre-employment background checks, including overseas checks, will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.
