Health Improvement Team within the Public Health Department of Halton Borough Council
Main Purpose of the Role
To provide a dietetic service within a specialist area of dietetics, assessing and treating own caseload of patients, translating scientific information about food and nutrition into practical everyday advice for weight management and maintaining associated records.
Provide comprehensive assessment and provision of individual dietary advice, treatment and on-going support to patients including patient reviews and on-going case management in line with NICE guidance across Tiers 3 to children, young people, adults and families in a group and 1-2-1 settings implementing skills and knowledge of behaviour change theories.
As the Specialist Dietitian within the Halton Health Improvement Team provide expert knowledge, training and insight in the area of weight management to the team, wider colleagues and partners.
To work supportively and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) across the Tier 2 and 3 weight management service, provide expert advice and support, to ensure excellent patient healthcare and outcomes.
To engage in the development of weight management services and parenting provision within Halton, with particular focus on childhood obesity interventions and the implementation of a whole systems obesity approach.
Education / Qualifications
Degree or post-degree course in Dietetics leading to registration with HPC.
Evidence of post graduate study in specialist area of practice
Experience
Clinical dietetics in acute or primary care settings, with experience of complex patients
Managing personal dietetic caseload
Participation in training of other health professionals
Developing practice of other dietitians and health professionals
Participation in peer support and clinical supervision
Involved in clinical audit
Able to contribute to effective multi disciplinary working across agencies
Evidence of introducing service developments and innovation.
Working within Tier 2-4 weight management services
Knowledge
Understanding of local, National, professional policies/guidance.
Basic IT skills
Training/experience in weight management
Reflective practice
Advanced critical appraisal skills
Motivational interviewing skills
Demonstrate an understanding of own scope of practice and the implications for self and others
Knowledge of audit cycle
Understanding of the complexities of childhood obesity
