An exciting opportunity has arisen within St Helens Integrated Recovery Service, for a social worker to work as part of an established and innovative project with St Helens CGL providing support for vulnerable families.
Building Bridges St Helens is CGL flagship family support service which has achieved national acclaim for the work supporting families affected by parental substance use. Building bridges provides a combination of one to one and therapeutic group support covering issues such as parenting, parental conflict and domestic abuse. Alongside this we also deliver the MPACT program. MPACT (Moving Parents and Children Together Programme) is a whole family structured support programme which aims to improve the well-being of children and families affected by substance misuse.
The role seeks a self-motivated individual to join a team supporting families affected by parental substance use. Responsibilities include providing therapeutic support, assessments, and care planning to enhance parental engagement in treatment and family recovery.
Collaborating with St Helens children’s services, the role involves aiding adult service users with substance, alcohol, and social care needs. Additionally, it includes creating support packages for children affected by parental substance misuse.
The position requires close cooperation with St Helens council, social work, and early help staff across various sites. Flexibility within agreed hours, including occasional evening and weekend work, is necessary to maintain service provision within operating hours.

Hours: 37.5h per week
Salary : £35,226.32 - 42,129.33 Pro Rata (CGL Scale 33 to 40) Depending on Experience
About the role:
- Hold a case load of relevant service users in order to support the needs of the service
- Coordinate a tailor-made package of care including: Recognised psycho-social interventions, 1to1 key work and group work, Clinical interventions, Harm minimisation and brief interventions, Recovery planning and risk management, Advocacy support to support access to partner agencies.
- Coach and develop the team to work with challenging service user groups where there are complex issues related to substance misuse, domestic abuse, child sexual exploitation, criminal justice, children, families, caring responsibilities, mental health and/or behavioural issues
- Be an expert advisor providing advice and consultation to the team on issues such as risk, safeguarding, social care links, substance misuse, domestic abuse, self-neglect, child sexual exploitation, and complex and multiple needs, through delivering bespoke training, workshops and bitesize learning
- Develop and formalise effective working relationships and robust pathways with key partner agencies including local statutory sector adult and child social care services, ensuring joint working agreements are reviewed and updated regularly
- Contribute to the support, learning and development of social work students on placement and newly qualified social workers undertaking their ASYE programme
- Undertake all administrative duties relating to the social work function in a timely manner, including writing reports, case records and correspondence in line with CGL and Social Services guidelines and policy
- Fulfil the role of or work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead contributing to the safety and well-being of service users, families and communities.
- Assisting in the implementation of policies that aim to safeguard vulnerable people and uplift communities.
- Developing service provision in relation to the therapeutic offer and supporting the development of safeguarding practise and interventions within the service.
About you:
- Hold a valid qualification in Social Work and be registered with the regulatory body
- Experience and knowledge on the working practice of Safeguarding Children and Adults
- The ability to work effectively with a range of issues including, drug and alcohol issues, criminal justice, mental health, domestic abuse
- Excellent team working and interpersonal skills, maintaining a highly cooperative approach to supporting colleagues in delivering service objectives
- Accomplished written and verbal communication skills. A high degree of personal IT competency, and the ability to accurately record statistics for data purposes
- The ability to liaise and work in partnership with a wide range of professionals and agencies
