We're looking for a Geophysicist to play an important role in contributing to and delivering various renewable energy projects, whilst advancing OWC's reputation as a leading global consultant in the renewables sector. The Geophysicist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing assistance on a diverse range of project tasks.
What you will be doing.
OWC undertake a crucial role enabling our clients to realise their renewable projects, for which the Geophysicist’s contribution will include undertaking geophysical data interpretation to a high technical standard, contributing to written technical reporting and presentation of results internally and to clients and working interdisciplinary with other teams to apply and communicate technical results and advice to renewable energy projects. Your responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to:
- Providing input to allocated projects in a diverse renewables market, including those in development and construction stages, delivery of allocated tasks/packages within established timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Receiving and managing project specific client-acquired offshore geophysical data.
- Undertaking quality checking and assessment of data characteristics (e.g. type/method of acquisition, acquisition parameters, wavelet signature, frequency content).
- Undertaking seismic interpretation (e.g. horizons, faults, gas and other geological features) and load, review and refine existing interpretations. The focus of the interpretation is building engineering ground models, but may also include geohazard and shallow hazard studies.
- Preparing surfaces, polygons of interest and feature maps, and export results to GIS.
- Assessing and undertaking time-depth conversions.
- Cross correlate geophysical data with geotechnical data, working closely with the geotechnical team.
- Loading geophysical data into seismic interpretation software and troubleshoot loading issues.
- Assisting, and where appropriate lead, in the preparation and review of domain/technical inputs for projects.
- Managing work packages commensurate to domain knowledge and experience.
- Assisting in the preparation of proposals led by others.
- Participating in conferences and further an active involvement in the professional community.
- Undertaking approximately 80% chargeable work and 20% non-chargeable tasks including proposals, business development support, internal projects and technical tool development.
This role offers a flexible working structure, i.e. combination of working from home and office attendance with flexibility to working hours. The successful candidate is expected to report to the Norwich office initially, with the option to relocate to another OWC office as they develop in the role.
What we are looking for.
We are in search of an individual who possesses excellent interpersonal abilities, actively contributing as a valuable team member. The ideal candidate will exhibit a sociable and practical nature, supported by a resilient character, they demonstrate a keen eye for detail, numerical precision, and adept prioritization skills.In addition to this, the candidate should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences or a related subject. Master or PhD in Geophysics or related subject is advantageous.
- At least 2 years experience working in an engineering/renewables consultancy or geophysical survey contractor.
- At least 1 year of offshore geophysical acquisition experience in site and other engineering-focused surveys.
- The ability to establish effective business relationships and to maintain professional network.
- Project orientated experience with a keen interest and knowledge of offshore industry and project management.
- The ability to coordinate and lead tasks and work under own initiative with minimum supervision.
- Excellent technical knowledge together with a comprehensive overview of development, construction and operational phases of renewable projects.
- Expertise in one or more typical subject matter areas, such as geophysics and geotechnics.
- The ability to project manage work packages and own workload effectively.
- Good working knowledge of Kingdom software.
- Working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS and QGIS)
- Working knowledge of other geophysical acquisition and interpretation software (e.g. Sonarwiz).
- Excellent report writing skill.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office package
The following experience and skills are considered desirable:
- Experience in the development, construction or operation of offshore wind projects.
- Experience of geotechnical data acquisition and analysis.
- Data interpretation for ground model building and reporting.
- Good sales and business development techniques as well as developing network of clients.
- Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience of managing work of others at a task level.
- Experience of other service line disciplines relating to renewable energy infrastructure (e.g. electrical, wind and site, owners engineering).
- Knowledge and experience of geotechnical data acquisition and analysis
