About the Role
Greensand Surgery is seeking an experienced health care assistant to join our friendly nursing team, on a part time basis for 16 hours per week, on Thursday & Friday.
The main responsibilities include:
- Venepuncture
- Undertake NHS Health Checks
- Collection of specimens and urinalysis as directed
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Act as a chaperone as required
- When trained, administer flu vaccinations
- When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Provide support during minor operations/implants/coil fits as required
- Smoking cessation
- Order stock
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation’s IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- First diabetic checks (when trained)

About the Candidate
If you are a qualified and experienced healthcare assistant looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications:
Essential:
- Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC
- Level 3/4 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent
- Experience of working within a GP practice
- Strong clinical skills
- Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post
- Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting
- Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills
- Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach,placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong organisational and time management skills
Desirable:
- A qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture

Greensand Surgery is a semi-rural, GMS, practice in mid-Bedfordshire with just over 10,000 patients.
We are a dynamic, hard-working team whose aim is to provide high quality patient centred care. The partnership is supportive and cohesive and we have a full complement of enthusiastic team members. We provide a comprehensive range of medical services for our patients as well as meeting targets for the new contract. The practice consists of three partners and four salaried GPs, a dedicated nursing team, clinical pharmacist, and admin staff.
