Job description

The Greater Manchester Shared Service (GMSS) is an exciting partnership between Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Police, which was established early in 2017. Based at Trafford Town Hall, our aim is to provide a first class, professional, HR and payroll shared service for around 20,000 employees and customers across both organisations.

Greater Manchester Police is one of the UK's largest police forces and is responsible for keeping people safe across more than 1,200 sq km. The Force covers the Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan areas. GMP’s 10,000 officers and staff work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep almost three million people safe.

Trafford Council is located close to the centre of Manchester and employs around 8,000 staff, both full and part time in a wide range of jobs. The Council has a net budget of around £156m and serves a population of around 210,000.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a HRSS Operator. Our Customer Service Team are responsible for ensuring GMSS deliver an excellent service to a consistently high standard, with resolution of queries at the first point of contact. Operators are responsible for the day-to-day management of all customer queries, over the telephone and through our query management system, ensuring that customer expectations of performance and service are met.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with extensive experience in a customer service role within a large organisation. You will already have some HR and payroll knowledge ideally working with iTrent or a similar pay system. Previous experience of terms and conditions for Police Staff, Police Officers, Local Authority and/or Teachers would also be a distinct advantage. This is a busy and challenging role, dealing with a wide variety of high volume queries therefore an ability to work under pressure to tight timescales is essential. You will have excellent communication skills, be a strong team player with a flexible approach and be confident working in a fast paced customer focused environment.

Operators are expected to significantly contribute to the continuous improvement of the Shared Service Centre and our aim of developing the best-in-class public sector model. In your day to day role, you will undertake continuous evaluation of the advisory service, identifying training needs for customers and within the team. You will have a pro-active approach to tackling issues and suggesting and developing improvements and you will be keen to collaborate with your colleagues across the service to drive innovation and promote customer service.
