Our client are a team of world–class engineers and researchers, working on some of the most innovative developments in the renewable energy industry.
THE ROLE OF FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
Our client is now at a very exciting stage and looking to take the next step in its evolution. We are growing and have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced financial professional to join them as a Financial Controller to spearhead the financial side of the business.
This role will report directly into the CEO and will be at the forefront of driving the day–to–day financials and play a key role in shaping the business during a rapid phase of growth. This role is the first financial hire within the organisation and will therefore require flexibility as the business scales up.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES OF FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
– Managing the day–to–day operational finance functions of the Company.
– Work in close collaboration with all teams across the company engineering, technology, business development and operations.
– Maintain the highest levels of professionalism and governance whilst always seeking change where it will enhance the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the company.
– Managing a variety of core finance functions, including purchase to pay, VAT compliance, corporate tax and transactional data.
– Liaising with external financial service providers.
– Maintaining the financial accounting system(s) and processes, including producing timely and insightful monthly management accounts and ad hoc reports internally and for the Board
– Assisting in year–end and quarterly investor reporting.
– Participating in cash flow forecasting and budgeting, working with department heads for budget monitoring and updates, and developing cash flow and treasury management models.
– Contributing to the development of annual business plans and strategies.
– Interpreting and communicating financial data to non–financial colleagues.
– Continually seeking to improve financial processes and controls, developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies, and implementing corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls
– Managing the year end and external audit processes.
– Assisting in managing equity incentive schemes.
– Participation in corporate projects as required, which may include potential collaboration, transaction or diligence support, fundraising, corporate updates.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
– Professional accounting qualifications
– Strong understanding of financial regulations, accounting principles, and tax laws.
– Proficiency in financial management software and a confident and proficient user of Excel.
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
– Proven ability to adapt and manage a diverse array of tasks and priorities, whilst remaining calm and productive under pressure.
– High level of organisation and proficiency with data processing, presentation, storage and distribution.
– Experience in implementing process and system improvements, identifying opportunities for change, and utilising new technologies
– A desire to learn with a growth mindset, bringing new insights to the team and the wider company
DESIRED EXPERIENCE (nice to have, however not essential):
– Experience supporting fundraising and grant applications.
– Investment banking experience.
– Accountancy qualifications.
– Experience in a start–up and or growing company environments.
