Position Summary
The position of Director of Supply Chain and Special Projects (Director) is responsible for the purchasing of commodities, supplies, equipment, and services to be used by the organization and is a part of the Senior Management team at Hydraulex. The Director coordinates his or her efforts with departmental managers in order to maintain the appropriate level of inventory with the responsibility to make regular presentations to the Board of Directors. This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services that meet quality requirements and specifications at the most favorable price for the company, while building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers. He/she will ensure the release of inbound parts to maintain stock levels for production and sales requirements.
This position will coordinate directly with the VP of Global Sourcing, providing required needs and purchase orders once vendors are established. The VP of Global Sourcing will source and qualify vendors working with the Director of Supply Chain and Special Projects.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate domestic purchasing activities of the organization.
- Develop purchasing policies and procedures and control purchasing department budget.
- Evaluate cost and quality of goods or services.
- Negotiate or oversee the negotiation of domestic purchasing contracts.
- Review and process claims against suppliers.
- Interview, hire and oversee training of staff.
- Source, Negotiate, Contract & Execute agreements under management guidance to fulfill business needs.
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate supply chain activities.
- Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact suppliers to resolve issues.
- All aspects of employee relations (i.e. performance appraisal, discipline, attendance, morale, payroll administration, etc.).
- Analyze inventory needs based on sales trends and inventory levels.
- Place purchase orders in order to maintain stock level goals.
- Maintain an extensive database for all orders that is up to date and provides information for analysis and reporting.
- Provide product and order information to all internal departments as requested.
- Stay current with internal and external factors which may impact Purchasing functions.
- Arrange for payments to suppliers for products or services procured.
- Calculate annual requirements for products or services and reconcile amounts against available budget.
- Communicate to internal departments of lead time required to obtain products or services.
- Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
Education/Experience:
- 7-10+ years’ experience in a global purchasing role. At least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven success in a supervisory, management or leadership role in Purchasing.
- Experience with drafting vendor agreements.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization.
- Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, contracts, requests and other documentation.
- Currency exchange knowledge and experience.
- Familiarity with SAP software.
- Understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories.
- Exceptional forecasting ability with strong analytical and interpretive skills.
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment.
- Experience with purchasing from International suppliers.
- Work experience in international purchasing preferred.
- Knowledge of local and global markets for the industry.
- Basic mathematical skills with ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and averages required.
- Diplomacy concerning negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate department.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Excellent time and project management skills.
