The Associate Director of Finance is an important and influential role at the College as you will be responsible for ensuring the finance function runs efficiently and effectively, whilst taking leadership and accountability for the development and delivery of the overall finance strategy of the College.
As Associate Director of Finance, you will have ultimate accountability for all areas of financial operations - including financial control, treasury and investment management, year-end, audit and systems development. You will also be accountable for financial planning and analysis, in-year and multi-year budgeting/forecasting/modelling and for ensuring high quality financial business partnering throughout the College.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Services, you will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), fellow Associate Directors and all budget holders to resolve complex issues, whilst communicating key strategic finance goals and embedding a positive financial culture within the College, focused on devolved financial responsibility, increased financial literacy, awareness, understanding and cross-divisional collaboration.
Accountable for the delivery of high-quality financial planning and analysis, you will ensure relevant financial reporting and insight is provided for the SLT, Board of Trustees and other important stakeholders to scrutinise performance and make informed decisions.
A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or with experience in a similar role, you should have a proven background of successfully leading a strategic finance function, and have a strong track record of developing, communicating and implementing financial strategy.
With proven administrative, leadership and management effectiveness in the areas of strategic financial planning and analysis and multi-year budgeting and modelling, you should also have a background in reforming financial processes, procedures and policies in order to strike the right balance between financial control and smart and efficient working.
You should have demonstrable experience of leading on year-end procedures and year-end audit – with the ability to lead the entire process and manage the relationship with external auditors. You should also have an acute understanding of managing financial risk and be capable of producing high quality written reports, briefings, presentations and information suitable for a range of different stakeholders.
Proven experience of leading digital finance initiatives including system analysis, design and implementation along with a competent knowledge and understanding of commercial, grants, partnerships, contracts and procurement processes would be desirable.
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health sets and maintains standards for the education and training of all doctors working in paediatrics and child health in the UK. We advocate on child health issues at home and internationally. Additionally, through a variety of activities, the College influences the quality of medical practice for children in hospital and in the community.
The RCPCH has more than 22,000 members and fellows and employs around 200 staff, most of whom work in our London office in Holborn. We have smaller offices in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The RCPCH wants to represent all the communities we serve. Appointment will be made solely on merit. However, the College is particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, and/or candidates with a disability who are currently under-represented at this level of the organisation.
The College operates a flexible and modern working policy, whereby our colleagues work in the office for a minimum of 40% over a 4-week cycle and the remainder from home.
