Job description
Lead Programmer C++, to lead a team of seven, working with this award winning developer of VR / AR (PSVR2 / Quest3 / VisionPro) titles.
The studio are looking for a Lead Programmer to help bring their unannounced next-gen VR game, a fun multiplayer shooter, to life. You will be collaborating with a talented team to help explore, create, and deliver innovative software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build high-quality, scalable features for our AAA-quality VR games.
- Assist the game producer with task planning and management.
- Guide features through the full development cycle – from rapid prototyping, throughout development and release, with iteration/balancing and bug fixing.
- Work alongside the Technical Director to develop robust, innovative systems.
- Communicate technical designs for game features.
- Help QA to understand game systems and their properties so they can test and verify work accurately.
- Be a positive behavioural and mental role model for the team and studio.
- Create a healthy working environment, ensuring positive scenarios of success for your team.
- Support an agile, fail-fast methodology when discovering and exploring gameplay content.
Essential capabilities:
- Advanced knowledge of C++ programming, design patterns and software engineering principles.
- 3D maths, algorithms and data structures knowledge.
- Communication skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people to help them overcome issues.
- Aptitude for providing feedback, noting potential issues, and mentoring junior coders.
- Performance-minded development and optimisation skills.
- Collaborative with a multi-discipline team, empowering artists, and designers.
- Capable of understanding complex tasks to produce results efficiently.
Desired experience:
- 8+ years proven experience developing high-quality features for 3+ published PC, console, or mobile titles.
- Experience working on a multiplayer game and has a working knowledge of best practices during development.
- Experience working professionally with Unreal 4, with Unreal 5 being an extra bonus.
- Experience developing for VR.
- Interest in the VR market and the latest gameplay innovations.

Salary to £75k plus benefits. This position is in-house, 5 days per week in the studio.
