The Post

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Research) at grade 7/8 in Translation and Interpreting Studies with a specialism in Mandarin Chinese. This is a 1.0 FTE, full-time open-ended appointment to enhance the growing teaching and research profile of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Stirling. The successful candidate will be able to teach in core areas including Translation Theory at both undergraduate and Masters levels, and also offer additional options in their own specialism to complement our existing offering. Given the fast-moving nature of the Translation and Interpreting sector, we would particularly welcome applications with expertise in the use of Translation and Interpreting technologies.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to an active and vibrant Translation and Interpreting teaching and research community at Stirling, and if applying for the T&R post, an expertise in Translation and Interpreting in relation to heritage and tourism as a research area could be beneficial. The successful candidate would also support our TNE partnerships and be available for international travel.

About Us

Within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, our students have the desire to explore, to innovate and to create. One of the largest Faculties in the University, our subject areas are renowned for international and world leading research. The Faculty encompasses four multidisciplinary divisions: Communications, Media and Culture; History, Heritage and Politics; Literature and Languages; and Law and Philosophy.

Division of Literature and Languages

Within the Faculty, the candidate will be based in the Division of Literature and Languages. Literature and Languages is a large Division with around 50 colleagues working across programmes in English, Linguistics, Publishing, Creative Writing, French and Francophone Studies, Spanish and Latin American Studies (SPLAS), Translation and Interpreting Studies and Religion. We are a vibrant, international community of teachers, researchers and UG, TPG and PhD students, and the interdisciplinary teaching as well as the world-leading research carried out in this Division crosses, and interrogates, geographical, linguistic, and cultural borders. We engage in regular peer observation of teaching to share good practice and are proud of our supportive research culture with a focus on producing high quality publications, grant applications, public engagement and impact. Our UG and TPG programmes are well regarded in external reviews with consistently high levels of student satisfaction and high rankings in the NSS and other surveys. Our TPG programmes are increasingly international in their focus as they continue to recruit high numbers for Arts and Humanities subjects and colleagues respond and adapt accordingly.
