Teacher of Maths

Shoreham Academy

Location

West Sussex | United Kingdom

Job description

Welcome to Shoreham Academy – a unique, successful, and dynamic school at the heart of the communities of Shoreham and Southwick. The moment you walk through the door at Shoreham Academy you can feel the buzz, energy and excitement of an inclusive school that focuses on the enrichment, enhancement and learning of all children.

We are an 11-18, non-selective academy where everyone – staff and students alike – strive to be the best they can be. We see each child as an individual and seek to give them an education which best suits their abilities and interests. As adults we also see ourselves as a work in progress and invest heavily in our own professional development to remain challenged by what we do and inspirational in what we can give. We seek to employ enthusiastic, dynamic, and inspiring staff to join us in working creatively with our young people and enabling them all to achieve great things.

We focus on nurturing the whole child; our broad and balanced curriculum is complemented by a wide-ranging and exciting programme of extracurricular activities. There is something for every child at Shoreham Academy – whatever their interests, whatever their abilities. All students participate in the Shoreham Academy Experience with the expectation of fulfilling a number of ‘pledges’ in preparation for adult life.

United Learning is a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. The subject specialists, Group-wide intranet, own curriculum, and online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit, and we are open to discussing flexible working options.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All positions are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online check.

Here at United Learning, we are committed to ensuring our employees feel valued and appreciated. Because we are a group, we can reward you better than any school could alone, and this includes your employee benefits. Here is some information about the benefits available to United Learning.

The role:

We invite applications to join our team from ECTs starting their career, to experienced teachers looking for a new opportunity.

Shoreham Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our successful maths department in September 2024. You will be joining a collaborative and forward-thinking team who always have the best interests of our students in mind.  GCSE results have steadily risen over the past 5 years. In 2022, we had our best GCSE results yet with our cohort achieving 87% 4+, 73% 5+ and 32% 7+. We are looking for someone to continue the climb with us as we aim to get even better results for years to come.

Shoreham Academy Mathematics department is a fast-paced, hardworking department. Resources are freely shared between department members and collaborative working is commonplace.  With a strong and experienced leadership team in place, members of the department are highly supported, but freethinking ideas and creativity are always welcome.

Our classrooms are spacious, with modern interactive technology and equipment.  We are a large department; currently occupying 11 classrooms. We also have a dedicated Maths office with workspace and computers for hot desking.

About you:

As a Teacher of Maths, you will be a passionate and dedicated teacher, who wants only the best for the students under your care.  We are looking for energetic, passionate and committed teachers who can inspire a love of mathematics in their students.

At Shoreham Academy, we also recognize that you will need support to challenge yourself to become the best you can be – we will make this happen.  You will relate to the Academy’s ethos of “the best in everyone” and enjoy working with a rich, diverse group of young people in a dynamic and vibrant learning environment.

The Maths department is thriving, and we are looking for a team member who is keen to be involved and is passionate about maintaining a high standard of delivery within the department. We value leadership at all levels and we would be looking for an applicant who has ambition and who would be willing to take on additional responsibility within the team. Our team puts the needs of the students at the very center of all that we do and we need a teacher who shares this understanding of their role.

All new employees will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with Barred List information prior to working in school. Two satisfactory references are required from all successful applicants, one of which must be the current or most recent employer. Prohibition order checks are undertaken for all newly appointed teachers and support staff who will be engaged in ‘teaching work’.

All new employees will be required to complete a medical questionnaire.

United Learning reserve the right to request further checks for individuals that have ever lived or worked outside the UK.  It is an individual’s obligation to meet these requirements by requesting a Certificate of Good Conduct from that country, or those countries, of residence and (for teachers) a Letter of Professional Standing from the professional regulating authority in the country or those countries in which they worked.

All new employees will be required to read and sign the annual Staff Student Relationship letter upon joining the Academy.

All new employees are required to complete three online safeguarding modules prior to starting work.

Evidence of an individual’s right to work in the UK will be checked at interview.  Verification of any mandatory professional qualifications and professional status; relevant certificates or a letter of confirmation from the awarding institution must be provided at interview.
