Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the nursing team on ward 11a/b Acute Respiratory Care Unit (ARCU) at Fairfield General Hospital with a vacancy for a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse.

The Acute Respiratory Care Unit is looking to recruit a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to the unit. The successful applicant will have experience of team leading. They must have a willingness to develop and learn new skills and adaptability. They will be able to problem solve and be a good role model to junior members of the team. The Acute Respiratory Care Unit specialises in the treatment and care of patients who have both acute and chronic respiratory conditions who require specialist treatment and intervention alongside acute medical patients. The unit cares for level 1.5 patients who need closer monitoring and higher nursing care skillsets. This varied combination of patient groups allows nursing team to learn advanced respiratory skills such as managing non invasive ventilation, CPAP, blood gas interpretation, tracheostomy care and managing patients with chest drains. As the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be able to lead in our patients care and support junior staff members in their development.
1. Establish and maintain effective communication with patient/carers and families about complex matters providing a warm welcoming and enabling environment to support therapeutic relationships
2. Develop specialist knowledge, in area of practice, underpinned by theory
3. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust the programs of care where indicated along with maintaining the health, safety and security of self and others in own work area
4. Contribute to the development of services
5. Contribute to quality improvement
6. Support patients, carers and staffs equality, diversity and rights
7. Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice
8. Plan, allocate, assess and provide feedback to team members
9. Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources
10. You will practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal framework for nursing
11. Ability to work flexibly and unsocial hours to meet the demands of the service
12. Respiratory care and rehabilitation knowledge and experience.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
