International Climate Innovation Development Manager

IMPERIAL COLLEGE

Location

Central London | United Kingdom

Job description

Job Summary

The Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment, was established at Imperial College London in 2007 to act as a central hub to pull together the different work taking place across the university that can help tackle climate change and environmental challenges. The innovation dimension of the Grantham Institute’s work is run under the banner Undaunted.

Undaunted’s mission is to nurture a climate innovation ecosystem that enables the creation of scalable innovative solutions to the climate challenge at pace. To achieve this mission, Undaunted is building a pipeline of routes into climate entrepreneurship, incubating innovators through our Greenhouse accelerator programme, delivering an ecosystem that empowers impact and creating a landscape where climate innovation can flourish.

We are now at an exciting and ambitious juncture. Building on our strong decade+ long track record, we are now considering how to build or co-create an effective international network that can maximise the ability for climate innovation to grow and develop at scale globally with urgency.

We are looking for a driven and creative individual to work with us for a year to explore the potential of such an international network and to test and trial different international relationships and networks. This position is an exciting one – you will have the autonomy to guide the project, build on our current relationships and ideas to develop a fundable concept to drive forward an impactful climate innovation network.

Duties and responsibilities

The Undaunted team has developed an initial idea of the potential international network, with a focus on the public good mission, a strong link to overarching international climate innovation objectives, but with a grounded practical innovation delivery dimension. The network development will focus on building interconnectivity between existing nodes of climate innovation activity, providing the ability for capital, ideas, market knowledge and skills to flow between different parts of the world. You will develop, test and trial our existing ideas further, working closely with the Director of Undaunted and our current advisors and partners.

You will also play an important role in leading our fundraising efforts to secure support for this international climate network, building on our existing funding structures and explorations of funding routes so far.

You will be an active member of the Undaunted team, working with other members of the team to deliver on our wider mission to drive forward climate innovation in the UK and beyond.

Essential requirements

We are looking for a talented strategic thinker, with knowledge of supporting innovation, a passion for tackling climate change and experience and interest in developing international networks. You will have the autonomy to guide the project, build on our current relationships and ideas to develop a fundable concept to drive forward an impactful climate innovation network. You will need to be flexible, able to work with partners and respond to an emerging context and the outcomes of conversations, tests and discoveries.

The successful candidate will have a combination of strong strategic, interpersonal and communication skills. Some travel will be required.
