Role Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced, technical underwriting team. As an integral member of the team your focus will be on profitable growth, retention and technical excellence in building a World class, multi-niche Insurance & Engineering related service. With ambitious growth targets for 2023 and beyond you will be a key team player helping us to reach our goals.

Experience in underwriting Construction risks and/or CAR, EAR, Contractors Plant, Computer, Electronics and Machinery Breakdown is preferred, though we are open to cross training underwriters experienced in other lines, who are driven to develop technically. The ability to pass on knowledge to and coach others is also highly valued for this role.

You will underwrite, trade and build relationships in order to engender customer loyalty and achieve profitable growth in line with our ambition. Demonstrating consistently high standards of behaviour across all elements of the role, you will assist in supporting the national strategic objectives within the Region.

You will display excellent customer service skills and strong compliance ethics to meet FCA requirements.

Location:  Hybrid role, split time between working from home and Manchester office.  

Job duties

• On a daily basis, you'll ensure customer satisfaction by building rapport and providing excellent service to external and internal customers
• Build strong relationships with brokers, negotiating effectively, and providing excellent customer service at all times
• Handle general customers' queries via the telephone and in writing within agreed service standards.
• Underwrite Renewals and MTAs (potential the team may also incorporate some new business work in the future and the successful candidate may wish to become involved with this), including analysis and compilation of data
• Negotiate within authority and refer to higher authority holders / taking referrals within own authority where appropriate to ensure timely and comprehensive technical responses to queries
• Trading effectively to deliver the regional strategy, anticipating likely objections and building effective responses
• Calculate, negotiate and invite renewal terms in line with external and internal deadlines.
• Work as part of a close-knit team
• Support the wider teams by being proactive, enthusiastic and by challenging yourself to go out of your comfort zone.
• Provide suggestions to continuously improve the business in an ever-changing environment
