Procurement Category Manager
Newcastle upon Tyne, hybrid working with minimum 2 days per week in our city centre head office
Permanent, full time (37.5 hpw)
Salary circa £44,000 negotiable based on skills and experience, and great benefits including Health Cash Plan!

We're looking for an established public sector procurement professional to join us, and help us deliver on our strategy across a range of our critical categories of spend.
You're a key player in advancing the Procurement team, delivering a 'Best in Class' service for our stakeholders. As our procurement expert you'll innovate, shape and execute strategies that deliver genuine business value.
Typical day as a Procurement Category Manager
- Concentrate on minimising and optimising external expenditure whilst ensuring adherence to procurement guidelines.
- Develop, implement and lead on category strategies and tender processes for high value, complex spend categories.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with our major suppliers, key stakeholders, and internal departments, driving performance and improvements. You deliver great operational performance and foster collaboration throughout.
- Identify and leverage opportunities for Home Group’s customers, through the provision of products and services established through Procurement contracts.

You bring
- Extensive experience of leading sourcing and tendering within a public sector organisation. You have led and delivered optimal sourcing strategies and solutions for high value complex categories.
- Extensive experience in category management, PCR2015, and ideally JCT. It’s also important that you’re confident in using market research to influence stakeholders and outcomes
- Commercially focussed with strong negotiation and influencing skills to deliver great outcomes with partners and stakeholders.
- An awareness of the latest e-procurement tools, and ideally hold your CIPS qualification.
- Strong customer focus, placing customers and social value at the core of your approach.
- It would be great if you have worked with categories like repairs and Maintenance and/or Corporate Services or have a desire to look after this type of category.
- It’s also important that you have some basic understanding of contract law.

Job details
- We work a Monday to Friday and do 2 days a week in our office in Newcastle upon Tyne.
- We expect this to be a full-time role but are open to considering suggestions of alternative work patterns. Let us know at interview what you are looking for.
- You’ll manage your own diary, so if you need to nip out to walk the dog or do the school run, we’re ok with that!
