Job description

Job summary: The post holder will be expected to provide experienced healthcare support I activities related to womens care including the provision of efficient personal care and clerical support. You will be required to undertake general administrative duties within the Maternity Unit, including inputting data on the patient administration system, be responsible for the preparation of notes and results for consultations, maintenance of medical records with regard to filling of letters, reports and discharge summary of care. Good organisational skills are essential. The post holder will carry out a range of tasks that focus on housekeeping, administration and the personal care of women and babies. Section 1 main responsibilities: To work as directed and under the supervision of a registered midwife in charge of the clinical area. The ability to identify risks or concerns and escalate appropriately. To effectively communicate. Maintain good standards of ward housekeeping. Prepare the bed and surround areas for admission of women and babies. To provide administration and clerical support in the clinical area. Effectively use computerised patient information systems e.g., Lorenzo and Euroking. Ensure ward digital boards and floor plans are up to date. Promote health education to women, infant feeding, bathing baby, safe sleeping etc. To promote dignity and respect in care at all times. Section 2 professional: Maintain a high standard of personal care and communication with parents. To behave in a professional manner at all times, including the use of social media. To safeguard at all times and be aware of the importance of maintaining confidentiality. To behave in a manner which ensures the security of NHS property and resources. To abide by Trust Policies and Procedures. Section 3 administrative / managerial Check ward supplies and inform the housekeeper and clinical lead, as budget holder of any ordering requirements. To provide cover for colleagues as directed by your manager. Record and compile statistical information e.g., daily ward occupancy Participate in annual appraisals and contribute to personal development plan. The post holder will be responsible for the filling of patient notes and reports. Section 4 knowledge & skills The post holder will have computer skills. The post holder will have good communication skills, verbal and written. The post holder will have the skills and ability to communicate complex information to the midwife in charge. The post holder will demonstrate an awareness of the infection control policy. The post holder will undertake the annual BFI training study day as directed by their line manager. Participate in basic pressure area care and have awareness of how to prevent pressure sores by a using a range of redistribution advices e.g., heel offloading devices. Maintain the safety of patient clothing / valuables in accordance with the patient disclaimer policy. Assist in the care of relatives / carers whilst ensuring confidentiality is maintained. Ability to escalate any safeguarding concerns to the midwife in charge. Section 5 effort and environment Assist in moving and positioning patients in line with the manual handling policies, whilst demonstrating awareness of health and safety issues. The post holder will be expected to sit, walk, or stand for periods of the working day. The post holder will be required to transfer patient notes to other areas within the Trust as required. The post holder will carry out ward receptionist duties as required by the midwife in charge. The post holder must be aware of the emergency procedures such as cardiac arrest or fire evacuation and understand their roles within that. Participate in the safe transfer of patients at the discretion and direction of the midwife in charge. Carry out general duties as required by the midwife in charge. The post holder will be required to deal with bodily fluids as necessary. The post holder will be required to sensitively provide care to bereaved parents and relatives as necessary.
