Job description

Job Vacancy

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic individual to join our highly motivated Planning, Sustainable Growth and Investment team to lead on our Climate Change activities and policy development.

Midlothian is the fastest growing authority in Scotland and with this brings exciting place-making opportunities and a chance to help shape and build communities in a ‘green’ carbon natural way – starting by looking at the Council’s own operations and sphere of influence. Midlothian is a mix of attractive countryside, historical landscapes and vibrant communities in its towns and villages. Its immediate proximity to the attractions of Edinburgh, but with affordable family housing, makes it a go to destination for professionals seeking career opportunities in the south east of Scotland. Come join us!

The post holder will primarily be responsible to lead on the Council’s response to climate change initially on a temporary two year contract. To be the Council’s climate change ‘expert’; to draft, review and modify corporate climate change strategy and policy; to coordinate action across Council Services; to monitor and report progress against set targets; and to promote and facilitate climate change action in local communities and with businesses.

A degree relating to; Climate Change, Sustainability, and/or Town and Country Planning or equivalent plus at least three years direct experience in climate change, sustainability or planning and demonstrable organisational, communication, and negotiation skills are essential. A relevant post degree qualification in Climate Change or Sustainability or relevant subject is desirable.
