Job description
Job Advert
We are looking for a Relief Support Worker to join our Service based in Chelmsford. Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins, weekends and bank holidays.
About our Service
This is a four person service where most of the guys who live there are very independent, and need little to moderate support around personal care or medication. You will be supporting the guys here with daily tasks such as: cooking and cleaning, going out in the community to do their shopping or to take part in activities they wish to do, and travelling to and from appointments. There will be some moving and handling.
You will be working with a small team who have known the guys for years and are therefore very experienced.
The role of a Support Worker can be challenging at times, so it is essential to have a positive mind-set with a desire to improve the lives of those with a learning disability. You will need to be quick thinking with a positive, can-do attitude. Shift patterns for this role will be: 07.00 to 14.30, 09.00 to 18.00 14.30 to 22.00 and Sleep-in 22.00 to 07.00. You will need to be flexible and willing to work additional sleep-ins to cover colleagues annual leave. You may be asked to cover shifts in various services, but you will be based in Chelmsford. Being a driver is not a requirement, but would be beneficial.
What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
- Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
- Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
