• Knowledge and understanding of the work of the Youth Justice Service (YJS)
• Contribute to the provision of high quality YJS court/interventions services including attending and representing the YJS at both Youth/Crown Court and undertaking bail and remand assessments as required.
• Fulfil a comprehensive range of case management responsibilities for predominantly high and medium risk children and young people including those children and young people subject to ISS, in a custodial setting/subject to custodial licence to the standards identified by the YJB and the YJS Management Board.
• Devise and deliver a range of YJS interventions – including both individual and group work programmes – and be responsible for the enforcement of orders where children and young people fail to comply (breach).; make necessary referrals to support agencies to ensure effective resettlement from custody to the community
• Be responsible for the accurate and up to date maintenance of records and files in accordance with Youth Offending Service procedures and Data Protection legislation using the dedicated YOT databases and associated recording procedures.
• Relevant knowledge of relevant legislation and National Standards
• Knowledge of evidence based practice and risk/needs assessment tools
• Experience of writing complex and formal reports for a variety of audiences including PSR, Same Day Reports, Stand Down and Referral Order Panel
Essential Skills Qualifications, accreditation & Registration
You must hold a Probation Officer qualification or be a qualified Probation Officer. In addition, successful candidates must hold the following:
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
PQF Honours Degree/Graduate Diploma and Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice; or Diploma in Probation Studies; or Diploma in Social Work (Probation option); or CQSW (Probation option)

Experience of working with a wide variety of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties.
Experience of working with diverse communities including promoting equality and valuing diversity.
An understanding and appreciation of equality
Experience of working with individuals and groups in order to motivate and change offending behaviour.
Knowledge and understanding of the work of the Criminal Justice System and the Probation Service.
A working knowledge of relevant legislation and National Standards.
Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice and risk/needs assessment tools. Experience of working with people who have committed offences.
