Macmillan Oncology Nurse Specialist | Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust
Location
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire | United Kingdom
Job description
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Lung & Rarer Cancer Nursing team. Patients with thoracic cancers, brain tumours, head and neck and thyroid cancers make up the wide patient cohort and care begins around diagnosis and continues throughout the care pathway. The role also involves delivering holistic needs assessments using the Macmillan My Care Plan system so knowledge of this would be an advantage.
We are seeking someone with established cancer nursing experience and with an interest in lung and /or rarer cancers. Excellent communication skills and the ability to support patients with complex needs is a vital aspect of the role. Although the post is mostly based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital there is a need to work across site.
As part of this team, you will be a member of the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit and the nature of the role requires close liaison with hospital colleagues, Primary Care, Tertiary Trusts and palliative care teams based both within the Trust and in the community. You will be supported to access relevant training and development appropriate to the role and as a Macmillan postholder you will have access to additional training support and education funds.
The Macmillan Oncology Nurse Specialist is an important member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). As a member of a key worker service the post-holder provides care to patients with thoracic cancers and to those with rarer tumours, which includes patients with brain tumours, head & neck cancer, and thyroid cancer.
The care offered includes support and information to family and carers and information and support to other healthcare professionals involved in the care pathway. Care begins at the point of a high suspicion or on a confirmed diagnosis and continues throughout treatment and can include all parts of the care pathway. All care is holistic in nature and includes holistic needs assessments (HNA) using the Macmillan My Care Plan system in order to support the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of each patient
