The Opportunity…

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

We are looking for an NEC Supervisor (Mechanical & Electrical) to manage a team of Construction Superintendents and Field Engineers to take responsibility for activities in the field relating to Construction and equipment installation Surveillance of HPC, and its on-site facilitation.

In your role, you will take on Team Leader duties within the Mechanical & Electrical Phase of the Project, but may also be required to take on the role of NEC Supervisor for one or more contracts.

You will be embedded in the wider Site Quality Surveillance Team and will work with other Surveillance Team Leaders to formulate and define procedures and strategies.

You will require a range of technical skills and competences, management and communication skills, construction awareness and knowledge of various EDF Standard Nuclear Project Procedures and Safety Procedures.

What you’ll be doing…

• Ensuring the team of Construction Superintendents and Field Engineers achieve a broad range of competence to deliver their areas of accountability and responsibility.
• Proactively communicating with other site teams (H&S, contract, project controls, logistics), Quality Managers and Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported.
• Contributing information to weekly and monthly reports, as well as issuing and maintaining performance and KPI indicators.
• Liaising with the Site Surveillance Manager to advise of any issues that come to light that should be addressed contractually.
• Providing advice to Project, Quality and Construction Teams on Quality Surveillance matters.
• Endeavouring to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.
• Maintaining an understanding of the design obligations of the designers and contractors.
• Ensuring decisions are not taken “in the field” by EDF Energy or contractors but are considered and approved via the process in place on the Project.
• Monitoring the execution of Works are in accordance with approved risk assessments, surveillance programmes, method statements, design and specification.
• Ensuring that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before works are covered up.
• Facilitating collaboration and communication with Construction and Quality Delivery to ensure the final approval and successful implementation of the surveillance programme.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

• Degree in Mechanical, Welding or Electrical Engineering and experience
• Excellent organisation, delegation, and communication skills
• Experience in the installation and erection of large Mechanical, HVAC and Electrical Equipment within Nuclear Power Plants.
• Experience of operating in a high security environment.
• Extensive experience and knowledge around the installation of NPP Equipment (Reactor, Vessel, Piping Systems, Steam Turbine, Pumps, Heaters and Tanks, Generator, Transformers etc.) under FIDIC contracts.
• Extensive previous working experience in the delivery of large complex projects.
• General understanding of design obligations under CDM Regulations – along with an understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes.
• Ability to develop and monitor robust programmes on complex multi-disciplinary projects and to implement remedial action if required.
• Experience of fulfilling the NEC Supervisor role as required under the NEC contracts.
