Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the Adolescent Community Treatment Service (ACTS)
Permanent, 10PAs

We are currently looking for a Full-Time Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work within the nationally-recognised and award-winning CAMHS Adolescent Community Treatment Team within CNWL.

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated child and adolescent psychiatrist with special interest in home treatment, creative ideas for service development, and keen to work with a dynamic and passionate substantive consultant colleague and MDT clinicians.

There are opportunities for teaching and training, for example as part of the higher training scheme and strong links with Imperial College London to develop research interests.

ACTS provides high-intensity support to young people in the community, as an alternative to a Tier 4 inpatient admission, and supports young people in hospital to facilitate discharge back to the community and reduce the length of hospital stay. The multidisciplinary team provides tailored individualised interventions, including pharmacological, family and individual psychological interventions, informed by evidence-based practice, for young people with acute mental health conditions, in the least restrictive manner, as close to home as possible.

We work in a collaborative way with young people and their families to support them on the path to recovery. We provide a multidisciplinary approach to assessment and treatment we will work closely with the referral network to ensure continuity of care.

The main duties of the role include; to provide psychiatric assessments, including risk assessment for young people referred to and under the care of the service.

This includes undertaking urgent gate keeping assessments and work in close collaboration with the inpatient and bed management teams.

The Team has a fortnightly CPD session and business meeting, a monthly CAMHS consultants meeting and a monthly senior management meeting of Tier 4 Services which the potholder will be part of.

The Trust is organised in to three Divisions: Jameson, Goodall and Diggory. Goodall Division is responsible for the delivery of Mental Health and community Learning Disability services in Hillingdon, as well as all CNWL’s specialist rehabilitation provision and CAMHS provision in NW London. We also deliver community physical health services in a number of boroughs in NW London, including Hillingdon Harrow, Ealing and neighbouring System of North Central London.

Clinical:
• Assuming Consultant responsibility for young people under the care of ACTS.
• Providing psychiatric assessment, including risk assessment for young people referred to, and under the care of, the service. This includes undertaking urgent gate keeping assessments.
• Providing treatment for young people under the care of ACTS, including providing medication management.
• Working in close collaboration with the inpatient and bed management teams.
• Working in partnership with young people, parents and carers to develop evidence-based, effective and agreed care plans.
• Ensuring effective communication with referring and receiving teams throughout the Trust.
• Providing consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the young person and/or family.
• Coordinating multiagency packages of care, treatment and support for young people and their families with complex mental health problems.
• Initiating and participating in care plan review meetings, CPA’s and other multiagency meetings.
• Co-ordinating clinical liaison with clinicians in other community CAMHS services and other agencies.
• Contributing to the CNWL Out of Hours consultant psychiatric on-call rota.
• Providing cross-cover for the other consultant in the team for annual and study leave as part of planned reciprocal cover arrangements.
• Auditing of psychiatric practice and multidisciplinary work.
• Recording of clinical activity and prompt submission of returns in line with service requirements.
• Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous medical notes in line with the Trust’s record keeping policy.

Managerial:
• Taking a leadership role within the team and providing appropriate support, supervision and psychiatric advice to other team members.
• Sharing with colleagues’ responsibility for the day to day management of the team.
• Attending and chairing regular meetings as described in the job plan.
• Active involvement in local Care Quality and Performance group.
• Active involvement in the Quality Improvement programme for Tier 4 within the organisation.
• Participating in the planning, distribution and allocation of clinical, administrative, professional and managerial tasks.
• In partnership with colleagues, developing common clinical policies and guidelines for the teams.
• Collaborating with the Service Manager in the development of the service in line with commissioning requirements and service development plans.
• Identifying areas of unmet needs and alerting the Service Manager and line manager/clinical director if appropriate.
