Job description

The Weston College Group are looking to recruit a motivated and inspirational Assistant Curriculum Manager to help manage the education at HMP The Verne.

You must be a qualified and experienced teacher with an understanding of current pedagogical research and an associated range of inspirational teaching methodologies to maximise engagement and progression, including meeting the needs of SEND learners. You will be fully conversant with the challenges and change needed to respond to National, Regional and Local priorities as well as Weston College, MoJ, HMPPS and Ofsted visions, strategies and expectations. A flexible, positive and quality focused approach is essential.

The Assistant Curriculum Manager should be ready and able to deputise for any Prison Curriculum Manager on any area of the Weston College contracted delivery and responsibilities. This role can also be used to support curriculum managers throughout the Lot as directed by the Lot Manager.

About HMP The Verne

HMP The Verne, a Category C men's prison on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, prioritises education through partnerships with Weston College and the Open University. Residents can access a robust curriculum, which includes distance learning and courses like painting, decorating, and construction. Residents at HMP The Verne have diverse work opportunities, from working in the kitchens, gardens, recycling centre, and barbershop to engaging in practical tasks at the woodmill, where furniture is assembled, or crafting and repairing goods within system itself.
