The Royal Mail’s Engineering team is looking to add a Senior Engineer to the team as an Incident Subject Matter Expert to our Midlands Super Hub site. Here you will rotate in a team of 5 personal. Here at the Midlands Super Hub we process up to 1 million parcels per day. You will become a key part in improving performance coaching and developing and improving the site within a team of 40 plus engineering team.

 

About the Role

 

You will be the Senior engineering representative within the system control room & business unit; monitoring key performance metrics throughout operation, providing technical support to the operational management team and driving efficiency of the automation. You will also:

 

• Provide expert technical support during the operation including; management of complex breakdowns, analysis of technical data, support front-line technicians and ensure the engineering team are responding to automation issues in a timely manner.
• Ensure effective knowledge transfer of Beumer technologies and systems, working closely with BG System Analyst to ensure technical expertise remains on-site at the end of support contract
• Be the most senior technical lead within the hub, providing expert support and solutions to engineers and central engineering teams including subject matter experts and Beumer hotline technicians.
• Manage on-site escalation process for hub automation breakdowns and IT related issues.
• Manage technical performance, direct and perform technically driven maintenance activities to drive improved reliability and performance KPIs, providing first line technical leadership, guidance and support for all engineering grades within the Hub

The role is part of a team of senior engineers with set shift patterns but also requires pool cover. The successful candidate will need to have the flexibility to work across a 24-hour, 7 day per week operational environment.

 
About you

 

You will be a highly skilled engineer with a proven background of leading the analysis of complex technical issues. TO be eligible for the role you should hold a minimum of a level 4/5 (HNC/HND) and preferably a level 6 (degree) qualification in engineering. Ideally you also:

 

• Are a qualified machinery directive compliance assessor (PUWER) – or prepared to work towards
• Are a IOSH Managing Safety qualified and certified manager – or prepared to work towards
• Have knowledge and experience of delivering ISO 55000 asset maintenance strategies
• Have high-level of analytical, detailed data analysis and systematic problem-solving skills
• Can apply your knowledge of cost versus risk and change management theories to develop and deliver technical solutions supporting strategic decisions 
• You can demonstrate strong leadership, communication, influencing and senior leader stakeholder management skills
• Have experience of leading professional technical engineering teams
• Have knowledge and practical experience of deploying continuous improvement processes
