Job description

Stone Soup Academy is seeking an exceptional Art & Photography teacher to join our outstanding school. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, massively creative and excited about sharing their skills with our learners. We have fantastic Art & Photography rooms within our grade 2 listed Academies which are dedicated to creativity with the capacity for both large and small work which is only defined by your imagination. 

We have achieved Artsmark Gold and as such we are very committed to supporting Art & Photography within the Academy. 

Our Academy meets the needs of 110 students in years 9, 10 and 11 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education and we are based in the centre of the historic Lace Market in the centre of Nottingham, 7 minutes walk from the train station. 

Being centrally located allows our students to access galleries and museums within Nottingham and to take advantage of all our city has to offer. 

We are looking for a qualified Teacher although I would consider a graduate with relevant experience who is passionate about making a difference to our students. You need to be resilient, creative and above all else, positive and kind. You will be supported by a large team and work alongside the Lead teacher for Art and Photography.

We offer an amazing school with happy staff and you would be joining our large non core faculty. We have small class sizes, private health care after 6 months and heaps of other benefits. We are well resourced and well located. Last year 88% of our learners achieved GCSE in English and Maths and 96% went onto employment, education and training and 100% passed their GCSEs in Art & Photography. 

Preferably this position is a full time role but we would consider a part time position.

Purpose

To teach classes and subjects as allocated by SLT. 

To provide excellent teaching so that all students achieve their potential within an atmosphere in which students feel challenged, valued and secure.  

To assist the Senior Leadership Team in the overall management and development of the Academy. 

Main duties

Plan and deliver outstanding lessons to ensure that excellent teaching, learning and progression takes place in all allocated classes. 

Mark, assess, record and report on student achievement and maintain accurate records as required.

Prepare students for examinations and take part in Art & Photography in standardisation or moderating exercises as required by the Subject or examination boards. 

Meet deadlines for reporting, marking, submission of coursework and other assignments. 

Use data effectively to evaluate student progress and inform learning programmes.

Follow school policies for assessing, recording and reporting on student achievement, and use these to set targets for further improvement. 

Establish high expectations and ensure that clear targets are set for student achievement including those with special educational needs and the more able.

Contribute to the development of Schemes of Work, Subject and School policies as appropriate. 

To deliver the complementary aspects within the curriculum including literacy, ICT, numeracy, citizenship and careers. 

Employ a range of behaviour management strategies to maintain a purposeful, orderly classroom environment including neat storage and learning centred displays. Follow up all learning issues within their classroom.  

Develop positive relationships with parents/carers through interviews, letters and telephone calls. 

Undertake specific duties within the Subject area as agreed with your line manager. 

Attend and contribute to appropriate meetings and professional development activities.  

Follow school policy and support the Senior Leadership Team in the effective operation of the school.  

Teach Art & Photography, including planning, marking and assessment in line with school policies. 

Engage in whole-school initiatives.

To engage in staff development activities as instructed by the school, and independently. 

To actively participate in the annual performance management review.  

Engage positively in all CPD activities as directed by the SLT

To engage students in extracurricular activities to support and enhance the curriculum, including trips and visits.  

Management of resources

Ensure that school resources are properly maintained. 

Maintain an orderly classroom with neat storage and safekeeping of school property. 

Other professional requirements

Establish good working relationships with staff, students and parents.

Ensure that your safeguarding training is up to date and that safe practices are applied to your activities in the Academy

Be a Form Tutor and take responsibility for the progress, welfare and guidance of a Form of students. Monitor attendance in the Form with SLT and Middle Leaders taking action as appropriate. 

Use the subject taught to prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of adult life. 

To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example. 

To actively promote the school’s corporate policies. 

To comply with the school’s Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate. 

To undertake any other duty as specified but not mentioned in the above.
