Wimbledon Common Prep School (WCPS) is a pre-preparatory school for 175 boys aged 4-7 years. We provide a well-structured education that aims to instil a love of learning in a friendly, welcoming, and attractive environment.
Due to a well-deserved promotion of the current post holder, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen at Wimbledon Common Prep School. We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic, and inspirational Deputy Head Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead for September 2024.
The successful applicant would ideally have experience in the London Day School 7+ application process. This is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate would be classroom-based but with a very generous amount of non-contact time, +-50% teaching timetable.
The main responsibilities for this role include:
- to be the EYFS and Key Stage One designated safeguarding lead for WCPS
- to lead on safeguarding matters, liaising with parents and external agencies as appropriate
- to attend whole-school safeguarding meetings and liaise with the Director of Safeguarding at King’s College Wimbledon
- to oversee the management of pastoral matters (including pupil wellbeing), liaising with parents as appropriate
- to line manage and work closely with the heads of year and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead on pastoral and safeguarding matters
- be responsible for auditing, maintaining and updating all pastoral and safeguarding logs
- to oversee the PSHE and RSE (Learning for Life) provision throughout WCPS
- to represent WCPS and collate information pertaining to PSHE and SMSC for inspection purposes
- to coordinate the programme of pastoral workshops for pupils (including mindfulness)
- to coordinate the programme of parent training workshops
- to act as the WCPS link for the King’s school counsellors
- to lead on pupil voice, running the WCPS School Council
- to lead on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at WCPS
- to represent WCPS at Governors, Safeguarding Committee and IAPS district meetings
- to oversee the administering of rewards and sanctions

As part of the interview process, all candidates will be required to teach an observed lesson. Preparation work in advance of the lesson will be required, and details will be provided before interview.
