Job description
We’re looking for a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Robinson in our Food, Microbiome and Health programme.
The Robinson Lab is a dynamic lab currently made up of three postdoctoral research assistants, two postgraduate students and a research technician. The interests of the lab are focussed on two main research areas:
The Research Scientist will work on a Breast Cancer Now funded project examining the microbiome of patients with hormone receptor positive breast cancer, and will continue to develop skills in metagenomics, bioinformatics, bacterial culturomics, and in understanding host-microbe interactions during breast cancer in in vivo models of the disease.
This post is focused on understanding the microbiota of HR+ breast cancer (both beneficial and pathogenic genera) using a variety of samples (clinical cohorts, in vitro, and animal models). A combination of wet and dry approaches is required including microbial genomics, shotgun metagenomics, 16S rRNA amplicon profiling, plus in-depth data analysis and visualisation, culturing, molecular microbiology, in vitro cell line work and in vivo studies will used to integrate microbe-microbe and microbe-host responses.
Candidates should have a PhD in cell or molecular biology with previous experience in bioinformatic analyses of microbiota samples, and a be able to demonstrate a strong publication record. It is advantageous if the post holder has knowledge of Breast Cancer Immunology.
Good communication and organisation skills with the ability to work independently are also required.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £35,300 to £43,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 36 months.
