Job description
This is a new full-time substantive post created through funding support from the Northern Ireland Pathology Network, to develop and provide a regional Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Service in line with IOG Guidance, NG 47 Improving Outcomes in Haematological Malignancies. The post holder will play a key leadership role in taking this forward for Northern Ireland. The post-holder will provide overall direction and management of a comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality SIHMDS service for haematology patients. The post-holder will provide leadership and an expert consultative advisory and interpretative service for combined immunophenotypic and molecular analyses, for SIHMDS throughout Northern Ireland. The post-holder will be the scientific and clinical scientist managerial lead for the SIHMDS provision and be accountable for the service provided and scientific staff employed. The post-holder will maintain an area(s) of highly specialised knowledge and take responsibility for provision of scientific services in that area, acting as an expert in that field(s). The post-holder will ensure continued strategic direction and development of the commissioned SIHMDS in line with the Trust’s overall strategy and needs. The post-holder will act in a Consultant Clinical Scientific capacity providing clinical liaison, scientific leadership, knowledge, skills, and expertise. The post-holder will keep abreast of scientific knowledge and current practice in all areas covered by the laboratory, being a member of relevant clinical and scientific steering groups, societies, and committees, representing the Trust in the relevant areas of haematological malignancy diagnostics in national and international meetings. The post-holder will report to the Lead Molecular Clinical Scientist for Microbiology & Molecular Diagnostics, who is part of the Senior Management team, and work collaboratively with the Head of Regional Molecular Diagnostics Somatic (RMDS). The post-holder will work closely alongside the Service Improvement Leads for Cellular pathology, Clinical Haematology and other Consultant colleagues in the Laboratories/ Clinical Specialisms in BHSCT and other HSC Trusts. The post-holder, as the Head of SIHMDS service, will assume responsibility for the maintenance of accreditation and regulatory compliance of all aspects of the service. The post-holder is responsible for promoting and maintaining the highest possible standards of scientific work appropriate for a comprehensive, efficient, and cost effective SIHMDS and in collaboration with the Head of RMDS. The post-holder will maintain awareness of current developments in professional standards and regional policies that relate to the delivery of Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service. The post-holder will review the needs of service users (linked to constant surveillance of medical and scientific literature) to promote service development. .
