SENIOR STRATEGIC EVIDENCE MANAGER

Salary : Circa £50,000 per annum

Reports to: Head of Strategic Evidence

Department: Policy, Information and Communications

Location: Stratford w/ high-flex (1 - 2 days per week in the office). We are open to further discussions regarding flexibility for the successful candidate.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Strategic Evidence Manager to join us. We need you to lead strategic projects and programmes of work focused on the generation and interpretation of a comprehensive evidence base on early diagnosis, treatment access and cancer innovations.

Further to this, you'll play a vital role in supporting the Head of Strategic Evidence and teams across the Policy, Information and Communications Directorate, to ensure that our early diagnosis, treatment and cancer innovation strategies and activities to influence policy and practice for patient benefit are evidence based and accurate.

What will I be doing?

• Acting as a topic/subject expert across the early diagnosis, treatment and cancer innovations evidence landscapes
• Project management and oversight of special projects as required, including oversight of the commissioned and in-house research projects from initiation to dissemination
• Matrix managing team activities to ensure that the team has an accurate and up-to-date overview of early diagnosis, treatment access and innovations evidence, covering both existing and new/emerging evidence areas
• Overseeing the building and maintenance of oversight, capturing of key knowledge gaps and outstanding research questions
• Using your own and others' knowledge of the early diagnosis, treatment access, and cancer innovations evidence to inform the development of team and directorate-wide strategy
• Working with the Head of Strategic Evidence to ensure that the team, and relevant internal governance programmes, are well networked into relevant developments across CRUK
• Supporting the management of junior staff, inputting into the setting of clear development objectives and performance appraisal
• Acting as a spokesperson and senior representative of the charity.

What skills are you looking for?

• Significant/substantial evidence searching, reviewing and critical appraisal skills
• Ability to quickly and accurately appraise scientific methodologies, interpret the findings of scientific and other (unpublished) papers, draw sound conclusions, set these into context, and assess the implications for strategy
• Strategic and creative thinker, able to identify and capitalise on opportunities to further early diagnosis of cancer/treatment access/cancer innovations
• Proven ability to manage, inspire and motivate team members, and through matrix management arrangements
• Proven ability to write concise, accurate and engaging reports, briefings and papers for a range of audiences
• Strong planning and organisation skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build strong networks and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels from a variety of fields
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills and confident
• Significant experience of working in the health, science or policy sectors
• A professional or post-graduate qualification in a relevant field (health, biomedical science, public policy, charity sector), with a research component
• Experience as a media spokesperson or desire to learn.
