Opportunities exist for both a Marine Consents Manager (MCM) and an Assistant Marine Consents Manager (aMCM) within the Marine function of the SSEN Transmission business, part of the SSE Group.
Successful applicants will be responsible for developing and consenting some of the most significant subsea cable infrastructure in Europe, working at the leading edge of project development and consenting. Helping shape the future of the UK and Europe’s energy transmission infrastructure and being a key part in delivering the UK’s 2030 goals.
The Marine Consents and Environment team work on a range of projects from short inter-island cables in the Orkney and Shetland islands to several hundred-kilometre long HVDC systems and offshore substations and platforms, as such the size and complexity of project and the level of autonomy allocated to each MCM or aMCM will be commensurate with their experience and will grow as their experience grows.
Alongside the development and consenting of subsea cables, the Marine Consent Managers lead on the development of marine habitat restoration with active projects looking at, Seagrass, Native Oysters, Seaweed and catchment scale restoration. They provide guidance to the Transmission business on how to deliver habitat restoration in the marine environment and helping to shape marine BNG.
Applicants considering the MCM role will have a detailed understanding of the marine environment and the systems and species within it. They will have experience of the subsea cable or offshore renewables sectors, with experience of managing site selection, consenting and installation processes along with detailed knowledge of regulatory regimes and legislation applicable to Scottish waters. They will be competent in drafting and reviewing reports and impact assessments and will be competent in commissioning and undertaking work to EIA standards.
Applicants considering the aMCM role will have a broad understanding of developing and consenting projects in the marine environment, preferably in Scottish waters. They will have some experience of working in the environmental or ecology sectors and will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the marine environment, and applicable legislation.
