Job description
What you will do in your working day
Reporting to the Bursar, the Facilities Officer will:
- Support and contribute to the aims and spirit of the school
- Carry out professional duties under the reasonable direction of the Bursar or Caretakers
- Attend various insets during the academic year (1 per term) usually on the days leading up to the start of term
- Work positively with other members of the Estates team and all other school employees in general
- Provide cover for other estates personnel when absent, as and when required
- Contribute to the Health & Safety, Safeguarding and General Welfare of the School’s Operational Environment
- Be proficient in IT to be able to integrate into School operations and communications via email, website searching for appropriate tools and resources, and to allow use of on-line learning platforms
Support the School Operations:
The Facilities Officer will work effectively as part of the Administration & Operations Team to ensure the daily activities in term time and throughout the holiday periods run smoothly by:
- Ensuring the security of the premises at all times, assisting with opening and closing the school, operating the security alarms at entry / exit where necessary
- Assisting the teaching staff with the physical set-up of rooms / hall / outside areas where necessary
- Spillage and breakage rapid response including cleaning / disinfecting resulting from pupil illness / accident
- Parking attendance or Gate attendance at school entry / closing times
- Moving heavy or bulky deliveries to appropriate sections of the school
- Setting a good example in terms of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality
Maintenance of the School Grounds & Facilities:
Under the direction from the Bursar or Caretakers the Facilities Officer will:
- Proactively identify issues that require repairs, and help fix as soon as possible, being mindful of appropriate times of the day that do not impact the girl’s education
- Maintenance tasks could entail fixing or replacing taps, dealing with toilet cistern malfunctions, or other plumbing requirements. Electrical fault tracing, maintenance / cleaning of electrical appliances. Fixings for shelves, noticeboards, fences or other carpentry requirements. Painting & Decorating. Mowing, Strimming, Branch cutting and general Gardening work. Use of power tools appropriate to maintenance jobs
- At all times carry out safe effective solutions
- Where items cannot be fixed internally and specialist external resources are needed, in agreement with the Bursar, co-ordinate the attendance of third party suppliers and ensure they work safely within the school, and do not place pupils at risk
- Ensure the grounds, external paths and walkways are kept neat and tidy, sweeping regularly, removing leaves in Autumn and removing any rubbish to the school’s bins or skips
- Ensure all fields are kept cut during the growing season and marked for Sports use where appropriate
- Keep bushes and trees trimmed and pruned and plant and maintain borders and beds
- Regularly remove weeds from borders and paths
- Keep low level gutters and drains free from blockages
- Meet with the Bursar and facilities staff regularly to plan and prioritise work items
The training you will be getting
Gain your Level 2 Facilities qualification. Training is provided by TSP Learn once a week. Hybrid training, in-person and online.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Full-time position to be considered upon completion of the apprenticeship.
