Local Authority Attendance Advisor

Salary - £33,945 - £38,223 pro-rata (Grade 6)

Hours - 37 hours per week

Contract type - Term Time plus 2 weeks

We are seeking to recruit a Local Authority Attendance Advisor within the Local Authority Attendance Team

It is essential that applicants have an understanding of Attendance legislation, guidance and policies, and a background of working and/or studying in education.

This post will include working from Community Hubs across the City, for some of the working week, in addition to office days and flexible working.

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills, an understanding of Safeguarding, and an ability to deal with complex and challenging cases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice, support, and challenge to senior leaders in schools and settings to ensure that statutory responsibilities in relation to school attendance are undertaken on a termly basis.

This post will include working strategically with other services across geographical areas of Wolverhampton to remove barriers in the longer term.

The post holder will support schools to investigate cases of persistent or severely absent pupils and ensure each has an individual plan of action.

The post holder will set up and chair termly meetings with head teachers or the designated school’s attendance champion or equivalent.

The post holder will work restoratively with colleagues in schools, and with a range of other professionals and other agencies to strategically improve school attendance.

The postholder willresearch and disseminate national school attendance practice to ensure schools and settings are kept up to date with changes in legislation, guidance and policies.

The post holder will need excellent IT skills, including the use of Capita ONE and Excel, and must be able to work using your own initiative.

This is a busy and varied post, where every day is different, and we are looking for someone who can work independently, but also be a team player, and enjoy the challenge of dealing with people on a daily basis.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style.Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance.Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location.Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
