We have a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic Pastoral Manager to join our dedicated and highly motivated sixth form team, who are ambitious in ensuring students have an educational experience that enables them to achieve their aspirations, personally and academically.

With an appropriate qualification and/or extensive experience in pastoral care or safeguarding, you will be passionate about ensuring all students receive the very best opportunity to thrive academically and personally within our community.

Excellent communication skills that enable you to engage with a wide range of audiences, along with your approachable nature and experience of working with children and families will be key to your success in this role.

JOB DESCRTIPTION

Role Overview

As the Sixth Form Pastoral Manager at Pate’s, the role holder will work with pupils, staff and parents in pastoral matters, promoting pupils welfare and safety, liaising with external agencies and lead on the management and progress of pupils in the Sixth Form with pastoral or safeguarding concern. They will also act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Core Responsibilities – Pastoral

•Work alongside the Head of Sixth Form and Heads of Years to provide high quality and personalised pastoral support for all Sixth Form students.

•Act as a first point of contact for any pastoral concerns, providing timely, relevant support and advice to students and families.

•Share good pastoral practice with colleagues and engage in reflective dialogue, particularly relating to Sixth Form issues.

•Build effective links with external support agencies and services to best support Sixth Form students.

•Maintain accurate records of student interventions and lead on the production of Student Pastoral Support Plans for Sixth Formers in collaboration with key school staff (e.g., SENDCo, Head of Year etc) and external agencies.

•Support return to school meetings for students returning from a period of absence and oversee the completion of relevant risk assessments or support plans, as appropriate.

•Work with the Exams Office, SENDCo and Heads of Year to coordinate the exam access arrangements for Sixth Form students.

•Work with the SLT attendance lead, Head of Sixth Form, Head of Year and Sixth Form Attendance Officer to identify students with decreasing attendance and remove any barriers to increase attendance.

•Work with the Heads of Year and Higher Education Team to produce extenuating circumstances documents for UCAS references.

•Engage in appropriate professional development related to the role.

Core Responsibilities - Safeguarding

•Fully support the wider life of the Sixth Form, contributing to and supporting events and other activities as appropriate.

•Undertake such training as may be reasonably required by the School to enable you to fully discharge your role.

•Adapt to the changing requirements of the School and your role as may be necessary to fulfil the School’s statutory or regulatory obligations.

•Participate in meetings which relate to the curriculum, administration or organisation of the School, including pastoral arrangements as appropriate.

The role holder will be required to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with Pate’s policies, ethos, aims and legislative requirements at all times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

Essential

•Have an appropriate qualification and/or extensive experience in pastoral care or safeguarding and child welfare, or a related field.

Desirable

•Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Counselling.

•Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Safeguarding.

•Recognised L3 Safeguarding qualification and/or Counselling qualification.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Essential

•Recent experience of working with children and families in the public, private or voluntary sector.

•Have knowledge of the requirements for Keeping Children Safe in Education; and of legislation, guidance, policy, procedures, and good practice in safeguarding children.

•Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences including children, families, colleagues, schools and external agencies, including in the delivery of training.

•Excellent IT skills, presentation and report-writing skills.

•Excellent organisational and time management skills.

•Able to understand school roles and responsibilities.

Desirable

•An understanding of the SEND code of practice and the implications for safeguarding.
