Role: Equipment Coatings SME (Subject Matter Expert) Position: Contract Location: Hinkley Point C

Duration: CED 31/12/2024 Rolling 12 months thereafter

Day Rate: £390 - £490 PAYE / £550 - £650 Umbrella

We invite you to become a crucial part of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of two major EPR nuclear plants, driving innovation, sustainability, and excellence in construction.

The role is flexible regarding location although some work will be required to work at the HPC site in Somerset on an infrequent basis. Some travel may be required for meetings. Additional locations where work could be undertaken include: Avonmouth, London and Paris. Some international travel may be required on an ad hoc basis.

Hinkley Point C is a cutting-edge nuclear site located in West Somerset, just 15 miles from Bridgwater. This ambitious project aims to establish two major EPR nuclear plants, driving a sustainable energy future for the UK. Your role as Equipment coatings SME is essential in ensuring consistent project delivery while upholding safety, quality, and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Quorate member of the PTG (Paint Topic Group), the HPC entry point for off-site equipment related coating queries.
• Entry point for non-conformances, requests for information, field change requests.
• Manages the Paint Group Topic tracker - assigning risk score in collaboration with the Chair.
• Performs first response and screening of topics for PTG, engages with Contract Engineering Lead, Nuclear Services and with RD (responsible designer) back office as required.
• Addresses topics managed via normal business and makes a recommendation for rapid endorsement by the TCO (Technical Client Organisation) PTG Chair or SIB (Structural Integrity Branch) corrosion /paint specialist.
• Escalates topics into the PTG based on risk
• Works collaboratively with onsite Coating SME, Superintendents and Quality Leads for resolution of significant site issues.
• Provides support to the wider JDO organisation regarding on-site coating related issues.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• IEEE Equipment Qualification
• Corrosion, contamination and nature of coatings
• Detailed knowledge, experience and understanding of coating systems.
• Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction, and design codes/guidelines
• Strong communication skills in English required
• Technical problem solving in the field of metallic coatings.

Desirable

• Knowledge of coatings in nuclear environments.
• knowledge of French can be an advantage.

Essential

• Applicable degree and chartered status - (chemistry, chemical engineering, corrosion)
• Experience in coating application on high hazard, nuclear, Petro-chemical plants etc.
• Experience in coating defect rectification / quality management processes

Desirable

• Application of coating systems to equipment contracts
• Knowledge of coating systems for decontamination and decommissioning of nuclear equipment
• Coating Inspector qualification (ICORR etc)
