Gardener Volunteer

WESC FOUNDATION

Location

Exeter, Devon | United Kingdom

Job description

InFocus supports young people with vision impairment and complex needs. We want the people who use our services to live their best lives, and to be as independent as possible in their communities.

The charity sits on a beautiful 13-acre site on the outskirts of Exeter and provides our young people with a sensory rich environment to support their learning, communication and mobility skills. Areas range from sensory gardens, discovery gardens and play areas.

We also have a 10-acre Outdoor Learning Centre at West Hill for our young people as well as community groups to immerse themselves in forest school, tree planting, organic horticulture including vegetable growing, landscape management and helping to increase the biodiversity of the site.

As a volunteer gardener

We believe the best way for our young people to understand and connect to their environment is to experience it, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close and let it do the talking. At our centres, we shape unforgettable and sensory rich experiences for our young people to engage with.

As a gardener volunteer, you will undertake a range of practical tasks – playing a vital part in managing the sites. This requires a lot of physical work to keep the grounds looking their best so we can continue to provide our young people with a great experience. No experience is necessary – just a passion for nature and in good physical health. We’ll offer you all the training and support you need to be fully equipped to volunteer safely and effectively.

InFocus Charity promotes equal opportunities for all and welcomes applications from all sections of the community regardless of sex, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
