Ocean Country Partnership Programme Communications Lead

Government Recruitment Service

Location

Lowestoft, Suffolk | United Kingdom

Job description

The Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) aims to alleviate poverty amongst coastal communities reliant on healthy and productive marine ecosystems. To achieve this, OCPP works to strengthen marine science expertise; develop science-based policy and management tools; and create educational resources for coastal communities.

The programme is part of the UK’s £500 million Blue Planet Fund and is funded through official development assistance (ODA). Through the OCPP, the UK government partners with ODA-eligible countries to deliver tangible and positive impacts on the livelihoods of coastal communities. Partnerships under the OCPP are primarily delivered by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

We are looking for an external communications all-rounder to cover this exciting role. You will be confident in delivering excellent results across the breadth of communications disciplines: digital, social, traditional media and stakeholder engagement. In return, you’ll join a dynamic, friendly and supportive team, working within the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), an Executive Agency of Defra and in partnership with the MMO, JNCC and Defra. You will also work with international stakeholders including overseas Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) colleagues and partner country governments and other organisations potentially.

Cefas is proud of a diverse and inclusive work environment, committed to fairness and the promotion of equality of opportunity for all. We know that having a range of experiences, backgrounds, ways of working and thinking, makes us a stronger organisation, better at reflecting the communities we serve. We embrace different views and experiences and value the fresh perspective that people from a variety of circumstances bring to the work we do. We welcome applications from candidates who have not previously worked for the Civil Service, mid- and late-career changers with transferable skills, people from all backgrounds and circumstances regardless of disability, gender, age, ethnicity, LGBT+ identity and socio-economic status.

See us here: Welcome to Cefas (youtube.com).

You will lead delivery of communications for the UK government OCPP in a cross departmental team. You will work with internal colleagues, including the OCPP communications strategic lead, external partners, key stakeholders and the Defra customer to implement the activities detailed in the communications strategy.

In addition to the above, the main duties and responsibilities for this position are:

Whilst the role is unlikely to involve international travel ordinarily, it may potentially be required in the future. Occasional overnight travel to London or other Cefas locations will also be required.
