Assistant Houseparent – Term time only
Start date: immediate or September 2024.
The Assistant Houseparent live in one of our boarding houses on campus, looking after the students and helping make their boarding experience happy and successful. The boarding rooms are spacious, warm and welcoming. Boys and girls live in separate houses, organised by age and gender. They share a room with a student from another nationality, encouraging intercultural learning and understanding. Our caring, supportive boarding environment safeguards the students and allows them to develop and grow with confidence.
This is a residential one-school year position which would be suitable for a university graduate who is looking for international experience in a school setting.
1. Goals and Objectives
- Nurture a family atmosphere of trust, support and guidance within the boarding house
- Nurture the wellbeing of students whilst supporting their academic progress
- Participate actively in all aspects of Brillantmont life, from residential life to academic support as well as involvement in “house” activities
- Be a positive role model in all aspects of professional and private life
- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
2. Key tasks
Under the responsibility of the Head of Boarding, you will be expected to
- Ensure Brillantmont’s boarding practices are effectively implemented in the day-to-day life of the House
- Deliver the procedures and policies required in the ‘Boarding Handbook
- Implement of compliance checks for the boarding house
- Contribute to an extra-curricular activity programme for students during boarding time
- Care and support of boarders outside of the routine of the school day
- Undertake a daytime ‘cover day’ role on an allocated day each week, in support of the academic and broader life of the School which may include: relevant administration, support of medical cover, mealtime registers and supervision, helping with special events and external trips etc.
3. Working Hours
- Weekdays : 16h00 to 09h00 the following day Sunday to Thursday.
- Weekends : 15h30 Friday to 16h00 Sunday.
- Off duty : one night a week and one weekend a month.
- One day per week allocated ‘cover day’ from 09h00 to 16h00.
- The working rota is published on a rolling monthly basis.
4. Accommodation and food
You will live in one of the boarding houses and will have your own bedroom and bathroom on one of the floors with the students. This accommodation is available for you to use during the contracted period. When you are on duty you must eat the meals with the students. It is also possible for you to eat meals in school during your free time if you so wish.
SPECIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will:
- Be a dynamic individual and a great team player
- Be able to maintain high levels of professionalism and role-model expected behaviour
- Be flexible, sensible and approachable with high levels of stamina in a busy working environment
- Be a good communicator, particularly with teenagers
- Be keen on sports, the outdoors and interested in exploring the world around us
- Have a driving license and be willing to drive a minibus with up to 9 seats
- Hold a European or Swiss passport or a Swiss residence permit.
- Be able to work in English; knowledge of French is an asset
