Tes Schools Recruitment
Location
Wandsworth, Greater London | United Kingdom
Job description
Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Chemistry to join a School based in Wandsworth.
The School has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed Teacher of Chemistry to join their thriving Chemistry Department from September 2024.
You will deliver enthusiastic and engaging Chemistry teaching that seeks to challenge, engage and inspire their pupils to achieve their full potential in the subject of Chemistry. As well as delivering excellent classroom teaching, all staff undertake a pastoral role (as a form tutor, or as a co-tutor if an ECT) and get involved in the wider life of the school through co-curricular activities and outreach programmes.
They are looking for someone with good subject knowledge, who is seeking to develop their skills in their school. You will possess a Chemistry, Engineering or Physical Sciences degree, along with previous experience of teaching Chemistry at GCSE and A Level. They welcome applications from ECTs and would also be prepared to provide teacher training for the right graduate candidate who would like to make the move into teaching, subject to a satisfactory probationary period with them.
Science at the School
The Science department is thriving, with excellent levels of motivation amongst pupils and staff, consistently high uptake at A Level, and significant numbers of pupils going on to pursue science-related degrees. The department offers a wealth of opportunities for pupils to broaden their horizons, including school trips and competitions. Science societies and clubs run weekly, including Junior Science Club.
Working at the School
There is a genuine buzz at the school. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school.
Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining the school should expect to do so. There’s a strong sense of community and source of friendship. From the briefing to all staff, to the half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, there’s ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims.
They aim to look after their staff too. They have an appraisal scheme with a focus on the employee’s professional development; they sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; they offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and they're committed to supporting staff wellbeing. On a more practical level, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.
