We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced clinical psychologist looking for a full time position across two hospitals in our paediatric departments. Part of the post (0.6 WTE) involves working in the Paediatric Diabetes Service at Ealing hospital; 0.4WTE is based in the Paediatric Psychology Service at Hillingdon Hospital providing a service to the general paediatric population and the Feeding Clinic.

This post therefore offers a unique opportunity to work both in a speciality area as well as more broadly across a variety of presentations. The successful post holder will be well supported in a friendly and innovative team. Applicants are also welcome to apply for only one part of the role (either Hillingdon or Ealing) and we would also consider applications at Band 7 for newly qualified candidates .

You will have significant post qualification experience in child/paediatric psychology, with some experience of working in diabetes being highly desirable.

There are regular meetings with colleagues within the wider CNWL Paediatric Psychology Section, providing CPD and creating a large supportive network of Paediatric Psychologists working in 7 acute hospitals across northwest London. There is also a subgroup of clinical psychologists working in the paediatric diabetes teams across the section who meet regularly.

To provide a qualified Clinical Psychology service to children, young people and their families, seen within the specialist paediatric diabetes service at Ealing Hospital (3 days) and the general paediatric service at Hillingdon Hospital (2 days).

At Ealing the role will involve working as an integrated member of the Paediatric Diabetes Team to support children, young people and families on a primarily outpatient basis, with occasional inpatient work at Northwick Park Hospital. The post holder will provide a psychology assessment and intervention service for the local Paediatric Diabetes population, Type 1 and Type 2.

At Hillingdon the role involves joining an well established psychology department delivering psychological assessment, intervention and consultation to support 12 consultant Paediatricians and their teams. You will also jointly run the Feeding Clinic with the paediatric dietetic team.

Both parts of the role require regular liaison with MDTs' schools and external agencies involved in the care of children and young people. Experience with a range of ways of working is required, drawing on different theoretical frameworks to meet presenting needs.

As part of the Central and North West London Foundation NHS Trust (CNWL), Paediatric Psychology services are provided to four acute hospital trusts, (7 hospital sites), across the North West London region. There are regular opportunities to link with the psychologists working across the trusts both informally and formally for CPD and peer support. The CNWL Paediatric Psychology Service meets once a month for business, journal and research presentations, as well as clinical and skill sharing. There is a diabetes subgroup within this who also meet on a regular basis to review and share practice across the 6 MDT diabetes teams.

The Hillingdon Hospital is a large teaching hospital offering secondary and tertiary level medical services to an ethnically and socio-economically diverse population. Clinical Psychology services are provided to Paediatric Outpatients, including dedicated psychology for the specialist teams.

Ealing Hospital is a district general hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare Trust, providing a general medical & surgical services to the local Southall community. Southall has a large, ethnically and socio-economically diverse population, with many families having English as a second language. You will be working with interpreters and liaising with other agencies.

1. To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures,
rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of
efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

4.To provide specialist psychological advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

5.To provide professional and clinical supervision of trainee, assistant Clinical Psychologists and, if appropriate level of experience, newly qualified Clinical Psychologists.
