R&D Chemist (Ink Chemist)

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced ink chemist to join successful R&D team. This role encompasses formulating specialised inks from laboratory-scale development through to manufacturing, requiring both hands-on activity and close collaboration with manufacturing partners. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing existing ink products and the development of new ink solutions.
Education and Qualification
- 1st or 2:1 degree in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, or similar discipline. A PhD in the field would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial R&D/product development environment.
- Hands-on expertise in safely and efficiently operating in a laboratory setting, including researching, preparing, and evaluating non-polar solvent ink formulations based on organic and inorganic pigment dispersions.
- Good knowledge of colloidal, physical, and organic chemistry relevant to ink formulations, with an understanding of the fundamental science behind pigment dispersion and stabilisation.
- Proven capabilities in designing and planning experiments, problem-solving, and delivering innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret results and provide recommendations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with colleagues at all levels and the clear communication of complex idea.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulating and optimising ink products, from conception to manufacturing.
- Maintaining and improving existing ink formulations.
- Developing innovative new ink products.
- Collaborating closely with manufacturing partners to ensure seamless technology transfer.
