Job Title: Neurodiversity Inclusion Specialist - Speech, Language, Communication, and Autism
Location: North Herts and Stevenage
Starting Salary: £29,269 progressing to £32,076 pa (pro rata for part-time and term time only)
Hours: 26 per week 4 days 9am to 3.30pm
Contract: Permanent term time only

Job Duties:

Would you like an opportunity to support Hertfordshire delivering better outcomes for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Integrated Services for Learning is a multi-disciplinary service comprising of SEND Specialist Advice and Support services, Access & Inclusion Services, Educational Psychologists and Statutory services.

Within the service, there is a vacancy for a Neurodiversity Inclusion Specialist specialising in speech, language, communication needs (SLCN) and autism.

To enhance and support schools and settings, enabling them to meet the needs of children and young people ages 5-25 who have autism, social communication needs and/or SLCN

To offer individual support to children and young people 5-25 with autism, social communication needs and/or SLCN, working in partnership with the Specialist Advisory Teachers

To promote and pro-actively facilitate partnership working to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND enabling them to fully access education and make progress in line with their potential.

To support practitioners working in schools and settings in the successful inclusion of children and young people ages 5-25 who have autism, social communication needs and/or SLCN by:

Using a range of tools appropriate to the individual to capture pupil voice to support those working with the child/young person in developing understanding of their strengths and needs and planning next steps
Using a range of tools appropriate to the needs of child/young person e.g. checklists, observation tools, anxiety mapping etc. to support those working with the child/young person in developing understanding of their strengths and needs and planning next steps
Ensuring all members of staff involved with the child or young person have a clear understanding of their needs and individual next steps
Promoting the principles of best practice for inclusion
Advising on appropriate resources, materials and equipment
Modelling approaches, strategies and the use of resources to staff in settings
Implementing interventions in partnership with the Specialist Advisory Teacher
Supporting the setting in implementing strategies to meet individual targets and outcomes identified through specialist advice
Delivering relevant training and workshops for settings.

Additional Information

Experience of working with children and young people with SEND in a range of settings at either Keys Stage 2, 3 or 4
GCSE English and Maths grade C or equivalent
A-level/NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
In-depth knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children and young people (0-25) with SEND in area of speech, language, communication and autism needs
Experience of contributing to assessment and reviews cycles e.g. APDR, EHCP etc.
Ability to travel independently - access to a vehicle and current driving licence required.
A key function of ISL SEND Specialist Advice and Support (SEND SAS) is to ensure that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), with a range of SEND, is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and HCC strategic objectives.
