Job description

Working within Middlesbrough Council, our team helps those experiencing problems with substance use, domestic abuse, and homelessness. We are looking for a passionate, motivated individual to join our Criminal Justice Team as a Recovery Caseworker.

Your role will be based in police custody and- on occasion- police custodies across the Tees region. You will work closely with the police custody team to identify and drug test those brough into custody. You will be responsible for drug testing and further supporting our service users with their substance misuse issues. You will build rapport with service users and plan further wrap around support ready for their release from police custody.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

Triaging clients coming through custody.

Working with clients to help them remain engaged with agencies that can move their lives forward positively.

Completing assessments.

Identifying appropriate interventions, services, placements, and packages of support to meet individual needs and goals.

Working evenings and weekends where appropriate to meet service needs.

Working collaboratively with agencies, client, and their personal support networks to co-produce personalised plans.

Supporting colleagues from other agencies where appropriate including providing rapid response to crisis.

Regularly reviewing cases and measuring outcomes, identifying and overcoming triggers/crisis points that may lead to clients disengaging or resisting help.

Recording and maintaining progression, ensuring clients are aware of their support and safety plans.

Reducing involvement as clients gain sustained independence and planning safe exits from service.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The ability to motivate yourself and others.

A collaborative approach to working .

Although prior experience or knowledge of substance use services would be an advantage, if you are willing to learn and have the necessary skills, we would like to hear from you.

If you are successful in your application a robust learning and development plan will be put in place for you.

We are looking for people who have transferable skills such as managing and prioritising workload, delivering interventions, care planning and risk management.

This role will involve some weekend working alongside a shift pattern.

A full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle is required and will need business insurance prior to commencing in post if you do not have this already.
