Job description

Primary MFL French teacher

French is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are seeking an experienced Primary French Language teacher to join the Primary School Languages team . Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively to the continued development of the French MFL curriculum in Key Stage 2 , from Year 3 to Year 6. The successful candidate might be required to teach some classes in the High School to support the languages team there. The ability to teach Spanish will also be an advantage.

French is taught as a Modern Foreign Language to students from Year 3 onwards, with students choosing their Modern Foreign Language from French, Spanish, or Mandarin. Students continue with their chosen language until the end of Year 9, when they can then opt to study languages at IGCSE and continue at an IB level.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching French to Primary School-aged students and the flexibility and skills to teach French in High School as well. Previous experience teaching French across Key Stages (including High School) or the ability to teach an additional language, either Spanish or Mandarin, will be advantageous.

At St. Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and we have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD, etc., would be valuable prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner,’ and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
