Our studio is situated in a river-front building in the heart of the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent, UK. We are growing fast, developing our games using cutting-edge technology and delivering these on multiple platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox One and Series S/X

We are looking for a Software Engineer (Mid-Level) with a passion for games, simulation, and UE4!

At Dovetail, we are committed to building enthusiast-driven games based around:

• Large open-world environments
• Exciting gameplay, relying on skill, physics, and exploration
• Accurate mechanical and natural simulations built around our own simulation engine.
• Cutting edge photo-realistic rendering and lighting techniques

Main Responsibilities

• Contribute to core development on our Train Sim World franchise, including rendering, physics, gameplay, tools and more.
• Work within a team of software engineers on a personal level.
• Contribute toward decisions on overall software architecture.
• Support junior members of the team.
• Help create the best possible environment to help the team succeed.
• Understand and contribute toward best practices within the team, including coding standards and review processes.
• Participate in planning and estimation of work on the backlog.

Person Specifications

• Professional experience and strong knowledge of C++ .
• Excellent communication skills .
• Good software engineering skills, with an ability to program clearly, efficiently, and evolve your style and practices where required.
• Good understanding of debugging, profiling, analysis, and optimisation.
• A passion to deliver quality simulation software.
• Experience building games in UE4 & 5

Preferred

• Degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or similar
• A working knowledge of version control systems
