Job description


A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced General /Breast scrub practitioner to join our team.

We are working to provide the best experiences and outcomes for our patients.

The working hours for the role are full time, 37.5 hours per week. We in St Albans work Monday to Friday 12.5hrs per shift at present there are no weekends or bank holidays. We are sometimes expected to work cross site in Watford theatres.

To be part of the general / breast team, is it crucial that you have had at least a year scrubbing in this speciality. As one of the band 6 leaders, great communication is essential as we have a wide-ranging, multi professional team. Therefore, to be successful in this role, you should be great at organising yourself and others, problem-solving to prevent delays or cancellations wherever possible. This includes being able to order implants and participate in the National Breast Registry. As a Trust we have a teaching hospital status, so an important part of the role is developing learners (students and new staff) within the theatre environment.

As with all staff, you will be working proactively to ensure the best experience for the patients and the wider team.

As one of the general /breast band 6s you would be expected to take turns (with the other practitioners) running the lists, scrubbing for large and small cases, supporting students and learners. Organising and liaising with other departments for smooth running of the lists. In this role you would step in, in the absence of the band 7, this includes co-ordinating the theatre department out of hours.

You will also be supported to take on additional responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the lists and the operating department. Examples of these could include ordering implants, running audits, or becoming the lead for a specific area such as infection control or moving and handling.
